XM Satellite Radio Brings Music to NYC Marathon


XM Satellite Radio, the first U.S. digital satellite radio service, will bring music to the New York City Marathon at 10 locations along the 26-mile course, featuring a variety of XM’s 100 channels, which it calls “Radio to the Power of X.” Working with retail partner Best Buy and the New York City Roadrunners Club, XM will broadcast great digital music representative of its 71 music channels – ranging from rock to jazz, hip-hop to country, blues to classical – to help the marathoners as they make their way through the five boroughs of New York. “XM will bring the… Read more »

Apple Cell Phone-Sized Player Holds 1,000 Songs


Apple Computer Inc. unveiled on Tuesday a portable music player that can hold an entire music collection and takes Apple outside its core computer business for the first time in eight years. Apple’s “iPod” is the size and shape of a deck of cards, with a small LCD screen and round dial on a white front and a stainless steel back. It holds about 1,000 songs in the MP3 music format and has a battery life of 8-10 hours. Pumpkins Unload Apples


The Smashing Pumpkins will release their upcoming greatest hits package, Rotten Apples, on November 20th. Along with the prerequisite never before seen band photos, the album features songs from all five of the Pumpkins’ studio releases, as well as the song “Drown,” which was featured on the soundtrack to the film Singles. “Real Love,” a previously unreleased track from the Internet only release Machina II: Friends and Enemies of Modern Music and “Untitled,” a new track, are also included on the hits disc.
