Former Fugees Producer John Forte Keeps Hope Alive In Jail Cell

John Forté conducts all of his interviews by mail. Not because he’s shy or eccentric, but because he doesn’t have a phone. See, he’s the only Grammy-winning convict at Pennsylvania’s Lorreto Federal Penitentiary with a new album to promote. Forté, 27, was behind bars when his confessional second album, I, John, was released in April. That’s why he’s done most of the interviews about it via letters from his cell. “Spiritually, I’ve never been more free in my life,” wrote the former Fugees confidant, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison in November after being found guilty of possession… Read more »

New Creed Video Looks Like Salvador Dali Meets 'Star Wars'

Don’t blame the surreal imagery in Creed’s upcoming “One Last Breath” video on the painkillers Scott Stapp is taking for his injured neck and back. The singer drafted the bizarre treatment for the clip long before his car accident last month. And when he explained his ideas to director David Meyers, the two had a meeting of the minds. “We found out that we both have a love and affection for [surreal painter Salvador] Dali that we didn’t know we shared,” Stapp said. “I wrote my treatment for the video and sent it to Dave, and then he added his… Read more »

Assault Charges Dropped Against Rapper Capone

An assault charge against rapper Capone of rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga was dropped Monday in Queens County Court due to a lack of evidence. Judge Dorothy Chin-Brandt dismissed the second-degree assault charge on the grounds that there was insufficient evidence to sustain a prosecution, a spokesperson for the district attorney’s office said. The motion to dismiss was raised by the district attorney after an investigation turned up a lack of evidence against Capone, according to the rapper’s lawyer, Robert Kalina. “The police were in a difficult situation and arrested the wrong man,” Kalina said. “There was an altercation [at a club],… Read more »

Chilli, T-Boz, Jermaine Dupri Remember TLC's Left Eye

“There is a track called ‘A New Star Is Born,’ ” Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes said last summer, describing a song on her Supernova solo LP. “That track is dedicated to all those that have loved ones that have passed away. “It’s saying that there is no such thing as death. We can call it transforming for a lack of better words, but as scientists would say, ‘Every atom that was once a star is now in you.’ It’s in your body. So in the song I pretty much go along with that idea…. I don’t care what happens or… Read more »

Matt Sharp, founding bassist for Weezer, has filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates, their ex-manager and a slew of band accountants seeking compensation and credit for songs on Weezer’s first two albums. Papa Roach Distance Themselves From Rap-Metal Peers On New LP

When Jacoby Shaddix (a.k.a. Coby Dick) was bashing his forehead bloody with the mic night after night on last year’s Ozzfest, it became pretty clear that Papa Roach were a tortured, turbulent group – one far removed from the cookie-cutter rap-metal bands to which it was frequently compared. As if to hammer home the point, the band has distanced itself even further from its former peers on Lovehatetragedy, which comes out June 18. Aside from a rapped section in the first single, “She Loves Me Not,” and a few half-spoken vocal lines in various other songs, there’s nothing on the… Read more »
