Hanson, who parted ways with Island Def Jam in May, announced on Wednesday the formation of their own 3CG Records label, which will issue their new album, Underneath, in the spring. Underneath will contain several songs that Zac, Isaac and Taylor Hanson have already issued on their Underneath Acoustic EP, currently on sale via their Web site. A couple of years ago, a crazed Mooney Suzuki fan bum-rushed the band during a show and squirted mustard on singer/guitarist Sammy James Jr.’s fuzz box guitar pedal. Despite an apparent cease-fire to the mudslinging between Fred Durst and Britney Spears, the Limp Bizkit frontman just can’t seem to say enough about the sexy singer. Onstage Saturday at a free concert in London’s Finsbury Park, Durst introduced the tune “Break Stuff” by taking a swipe at the pop star. Rain and mud were no match for a crowd of thousands who flocked to the National Mall Thursday for a free concert featuring Britney Spears, Aerosmith and Aretha Franklin. The concert was staged by the NFL to create excitement about the start of football season – a game between the Washington Redskins and New York Jets. Payable on Death are in the midst of a resurrection. There’s no question that P.O.D. sound different without original guitarist Marcos Curiel. His replacement, Jason Truby, plays a more rigid and precise style of guitar, informed by bands like Metallica and Helmet, while Curiel’s technique was loose and sweeping, influenced by Carlos Santana as much as by Korn. The differences shone through on “Sleeping Awake,” which the band wrote for the “Matrix Reloaded” soundtrack, and they’re equally apparent on “Will You,” which comes out September 22.
