Voting is currently going on for the 2002 class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and once again Black Sabbath is among the finalists on the ballot. Frontman Ozzy Osbourne has made many caustic comments about the Hall and has intimated that he has no interest in being thus enshrined. Earlier this year, the four original members of Black Sabbath- Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Terry “Geezer” Butler, and Bill Ward-got together to try to write some new material, possibly for another Sabbath album. Gorillaz, the cartoon indie-beat band formed by Damon Albarn of the rock band Blur, picked up six nominations, including best group, in the eighth annual MTV Europe Music Awards noms, announced here Tuesday. Gorillaz will compete with Destiny’s Child, Limp Bizkit, R.E.M. and U2 for the best group prize in a ceremony to be aired live Nov. 8 on MTV’s worldwide channels from Frankfurt, Germany. XM Satellite Radio today announced that the first-ever AM/FM/XM satellite radio shipments began arriving in the United States in preparation for the company’s September 12 launch of its satellite radio service. The service features 100 digital- quality channels including 71 music channels, of which more than 30 are 100% commercial-free. In addition, XM will offer 29 news, talk, sports and entertainment channels. The company expects that in December of this year, there will be 100,000 XM radios available at more than 6,000 electronics retailers nationwide ready for the important holiday season. Michael Jackson’s long-awaited return to the airwaves with the release of a new song from his album “Invincible” has not been as “thrilling” as expected, according to station programmers. The pop star, whose 1982 album “Thriller” ranks among the best-selling albums in the United States, officially returned to the airwaves last Friday after a long hiatus, as Epic Records released the first single off his comeback album to radio stations. Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted made his first live appearance with his new band, EchoBrain, on Sunday, playing an hour-long set of heavy yet melodic rock to close out Nadine’s Wild Weekend, a showcase of Bay Area bands.
