Aerosmith, Staind & American Hi-Fi Lead Noms For Boston Music Awards


Aerosmith, Staind, and American Hi-Fi each earned seven nominations to lead this year’s field for the Boston Music Awards. The trio will go head to head in the act of the year, album of the year, rock band, single of the year, song of the year, and video of the year categories, while frontmen Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Stacy Jones (American Hi-Fi), and Aaron Lewis (Staind) are all listed in the male vocalist group. Sony's Columbia names Botwin as president


Columbia Records Group said on Friday that Will Botwin was named president of the label, succeeding Don Ienner, who remains chairman. Ienner assumed the title of president in 1989 at age 36, making him the youngest president in the label’s 119-year history. He was also its longest-serving president. He became chairman in 1994. Columbia, home to such stars as Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan and Offspring, is a unit of Sony Music Entertainment, which is a unit of Sony Corp. Pete Townshend Sets 'Lifehouse' Home-Video Release


Pete Townshend is continuing to mine the aborted Lifehouse rock opera project for new products to offer fans. The Who leader is releasing Pete Townshend: Music From Lifehouse, which features 16 songs from the Lifehouse performances that were staged at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theater on February 25 and 26, 2000. Pete Townshend: Music From Lifehouse is due February 26, and will be available on DVD (with a $24.99 list price) and VHS ($19.98 list) via Image Entertainment. Roots Drummer Says Relationship With MCA Getting Better


The relationship between the Roots and its label MCA appeared estranged in October, when Philadelphia’s City Paper ran a cover story on the group lambasting its label over a number of creative conflicts. Months after the much-discussed article hit the newsstands, group member Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson says that the relationship has been improving. In the controversial expose, Roots members Black Thought and Thompson voiced their dissatisfaction with the staff of MCA, including president Jay Boberg.
