Alienation Lands Simple Plan On Movie Soundtrack, Warped Tour

When you’re a teenager and you’re feeling lonely and left out, it’s good to have a band around like Simple Plan, who have already survived adolescent alienation and funneled memories of their frustrations into infectious pop-punk. “Maybe when the night is dead I’ll crawl into my bed, staring at these four walls again/ I’ll try to think about the last time I had a good time,” Pierre Bouvier sings on the band’s hook-filled single “I’m Just a Kid,” which is starting to heat up at radio and should continue to sizzle while the band is on tour this spring, first… Read more »

At The Vans Warped Tour, Punk, Served More Often Sweet Than Raw

Punk as an aid for getting in touch with one’s feelings has superseded the other modes evident at this year’s Warped Tour. As in their ordinary lives, these fans had too many options. Thirty bands played on eight stages, and the event also included professional skateboarding and mountain- biking displays, a wrestling ring, a Playstation tent, numerous ways to spend money or learn about political causes and of course the chance to peruse one another’s concertgoing finery. So most fans locked into a perambulatory pattern, meandering around the festival’s circular layout as the fairground grew dusty, then muddy, from the… Read more »

Alien Ant Farm Not At Warped Tour Closer In Detroit

The 2001 Warped tour came to a relatively subdued close on Sunday (August 12) in front 15,000 mosh-pit friendly fans at the Phoenix Plaza in the Detroit suburb of Pontiac, Michigan. Despite trepidation that the hip-hop acts D12 and Esham-booted off the tour a week and a half ago for fighting-might surface at their hometown stop (some D12 stickers were quietly distributed), the show went off peacefully and without a hitch. Some fans, however, were disappointed that Alien Ant Farm, currently hot thanks to its hit cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” wasn’t on the bill as expected. The group… Read more »

D12 And Esham Booted Off Warped Tour

When the Vans Warped Tour hit Camden, New Jersey, on Friday, a longstanding Detroit rap rivalry reared up and got its participants, D12 and Esham, evicted from the lineup. A fight erupted backstage at the Tweeter Center at the Waterfront between Natas affiliates Esham and T.N.T. and Eminem protégés D12, just three days after Em’s crew joined the punk/extreme-sports outing. Warped Tour organizers wouldn’t discuss the flap’s details and only confirmed that both parties involved were immediately asked to leave the tour. “Personal issues were brought into the tour, and we felt they weren’t conducive to the Warped environment and… Read more »
