Sounds like a pretty odd name, right? But hold on, it gets weirder. A unique ensemble of musicians called The Anarchy Orchestra will provide… Read more »

Thrice Educate, Give Fans 'All That's Left' With Major-Label Debut

The backstage area of this year’s Vans Warped Tour often resembled a punk-rock frat party, according to Thrice frontman Dustin Kensrue. There was plenty of partying and more than a few juvenile practical jokes perpetrated by the bands and their crews. Such situations can be flat-out dangerous, and sometimes injuries ensue. A few weeks ago, Thrice drummer Riley Breckenridge damaged his back while reaching under the band’s bus. Was he looking for water balloons filled with sour milk to throw at the members of Pennywise? Nope. He was trying to remove his suitcase from the storage compartment, and in the… Read more »

Good Samaritan Returns $7,000 to Eleventeen

Fledgling rockers generally don’t make much money, so when a good Samaritan found and returned $7,000 belonging to pop-punk band Eleventeen, he was smothered with thanks. “They were hugging me, they couldn’t believe it,” said Frank Gawronski, who found the loose bills along a highway. “It was kind of a nice feeling. They were very appreciative.” The San Francisco-based band, traveling with the Vans Warped Tour 2003, had left their cash box on the roof of their car Thursday. They were staying at a Dunkirk hotel after a concert in Buffalo, about 60 miles east. Instead of making spending plans,… Read more »

Yellowcard Challenges Punk Norms

As Yellowcard’s 2003 Warped Tour commitment winds down (its East Coast-only stint ends Sunday (Aug. 10) in Asbury Park, N.J.), singer/guitarist Ryan Key tells Billboard.com the hardest adjustment for the band has been the repetition of travel. “It’s like ‘Groundhog Day,’ where you just kind of wake up and go outside and you are in another parking lot but next to the same bus you were yesterday,” says Key. “It is kind of like a dream that you never seem to wake up from. It’s cool.” With its Capitol Records debut, “Ocean Avenue,” having debuted this week at No. 99… Read more »
