Sharon Osbourne Gets TV Deal


Sharon Osbourne may regret her hit MTV series, but she’s still fond of television, and reportedly has signed up as host of a syndicated talk show. The wife of rock star Ozzy Osbourne has reached a deal with Telepictures Productions for the show beginning in fall 2003, Electronic Media online reported Thursday. A spokesman for Telepictures said the company doesn’t comment on projects in development. Terms of the deal were unavailable, Electronic Media said. Are they or aren’t they? Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck won’t say, but it sure looks like they’re engaged. The couple, who’ve been photographed kissing everywhere over the past few months, have been coy about whether they’re getting married. People magazine, quoting friends and sources, reports in its Nov. 18 issue that they plan to tie the knot on Valentine’s Day. Bobby Brown Arrested in Atlanta


Singer Bobby Brown was arrested early Thursday morning in Atlanta’s trendy Buckhead community on drug and traffic charges. An officer at the Atlanta city jail said Brown was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding and having no driver’s license or proof of insurance. Brown is the husband of singer Whitney Houston. He was expected to post bond at the Atlanta jail, but Sgt. T. Davis said Brown had a charge pending against him in neighboring DeKalb County. Jam Master Jay Dies in NY Shooting


Jam Master Jay, a founding member of the pioneering rap trio Run DMC, was shot and killed at his recording studio near the New York neighborhood where he grew up, police said. Two men were buzzed into the second-floor studio shortly before shots were fired inside its lounge at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police said. As of early Thursday, police had made no arrests. Listen.com Licenses Universal, Warner CD Burns


Online music company Listen.com will announce on Thursday that it has signed licensing deals with Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group, enabling fans to burn songs from both companies’ catalogs on Listen’s Rhapsody music subscription service. Warner is a unit of AOL Time Warner Inc. and Universal is a unit of Vivendi Universal. Listen.com is privately held. Viacom Post Solid Quarterly Profit


Viacom Inc., owner of CBS, MTV and the Paramount movie studio, reported a solid third-quarter profit Thursday, helped by strong advertising revenues at the company’s broadcast, cable, TV and radio properties. For the three months ending Sept. 30, the media conglomerate said net earnings were $640 million, or 36 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $190 million, or 11 cents per share, a year earlier. Universal Music Ups Royalties for Song Downloads


Universal Music Group, the world’s biggest music company, has increased the royalties it pays artists on downloaded music, sources close to the company said on Thursday. Universal, home to Sheryl Crow (news), Sting and Limp Bizkit, has increased its online royalty rate and stripped out some charges, a move that could effectively double payments to artists for songs downloaded on the Internet, the sources and experts said. Creed Announce New Dates for Postponed Tour


Creed lead singer Scott Stapp (news) has offered his “sincere regret” to fans for the band’s recent tour-date postponements, and also announced a series of make-up dates in the cities affected.
