Brandy is being replaced by Sharon Osbourne as a judge on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” Osbourne, the 54-year-old wife/manager of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, will make her debut May 29, when the reality competition returns for its second season, NBC announced Thursday. “On this show, it just had to be Sharon Osbourne,” said executive producer Simon Cowell in a statement. Osbourne will join returning judges David Hasselhoff and British media figure Piers Morgan. Jerry Springer is the new host of the $1 million-prize contest. She starred with her family in MTV’s reality series “The Osbournes.” Brandy, 28, was involved in a… Read more »

Sanctuary Records to wind down U.S. label

British independent music company Sanctuary Group will wind down the majority of the operations at its U.S. label this summer, according to a source within the company. However, it will continue to run its catalog, licensing and new media operations. U.K. executives arrived in New York last Thursday and told Sanctuary Records staffers that they would cut operations by June 30, according to a source at the label. The label will still work on current records, as well as those coming to market, like former Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan’s solo debut “Are You Listening?,” which is due out May 15.… Read more »

Nearly five months after Britney Spears filed for divorce from Kevin Federline, the parties reached a settlement late Thursday (March 29) – though it’s not yet certain what the agreement entails. The settlement session took place Thursday at Spears attorney Laura Wasser’s office in Century City, California. Spears, Federline and their respective lawyers met for five hours, during which they came to terms on “all issues of their marriage and child custody,” according to a statement from the spokesperson for Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan. “At one point, Kevin went down for a smoke and Britney followed him outside,” the… Read more »

My Chemical Romance Leads 'Black Parade' Through Anaheim

It’s beyond obvious that the guys in My Chemical Romance have come a long way since the days when they were compared to the likes of Thursday and other bands in New Jersey’s emo/post-hardcore scene, if their concert at the Anaheim Convention Center on Sunday night was any indicator. Lead singer/songwriter/MCR mastermind Gerard Way and company entertained a sold-out crowd with an energetic and polished show that made clear their desire to be arena rock gods. However, the band members’ decision to not only play their latest album “The Black Parade” in its entirety but also perform the set in… Read more »

Simon Says Antonella's Time is Up; Melinda Aces it Again

We’re not even 20 seconds into the show, and Ryan Seacrest is already suggesting that we’re in for one helluva train wreck tonight. “We don’t havhe Paula! But we’ll find her, right?” This is “American Idol”? It’s the last round of semifinal performances, and nothing could be worse than Tuesday’s embarrassing men’s show . Well, I guess if they let Antonella sing for the entire episode I’d reconsider that statement. But with a group of girls this talented, even an off-night would be worth watching. And Paula’s top-of-the-show disappearing act certainly suggests that it may be chock full of potential… Read more »

Irish Court Seeks Shady Testimony

A Dublin High Court judge on Wednesday formally requested that Eminem provide testimony under oath explaining why he scrapped a sold-out gig at Slane Castle in 2005. The rap superstar’s answers are considered a potentially critical part of a civil lawsuit brought by the promoter against three insurance companies that declined to cover the costs of the cancellation. Eminem had been slated to headline the Sept. 17, 2005 concert as part of the European leg of his Anger Management Tour, but the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, backed out just weeks before the show, citing exhaustion stemming… Read more »

Idol Eliminates Four More

Randy said her song was “way too big for her.” Paula said something incomprehensible. Simon said she was “worse than last week.” But luckily for Antonella Barba, America disagreed. After a difficult week in which racy pictures of her were leaked on to the Internet, and her performance of Céline Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” was poorly received by the judges, Barba still managed to land a spot among the top 16 contestants on American Idol. The New Jersey native, who has been praised more for her looks than her vocals this season, may well owe a large portion of… Read more »

John McCain Steps into Presidential Race, Controversy

Republican Senator John McCain confirmed his much-expected presidential run on “Late Show With David Letterman” Wednesday night – and was promptly caught up in fresh controversy less than a day later. “Americans are very frustrated, and they have every right to be,” McCain said on Letterman’s program, in regards to the Iraq war. “We’ve wasted a lot of our most precious treasure, which is American lives.” That statement drew ire from Democrats, prompting the Democratic National Committee to demand on Thursday (March 1) that he apologize for using the term “wasted.” “Senator McCain should apologize immediately for his callous comments,”… Read more »

Arctic Monkeys Take Two NME Music Awards

British bands swept the NME music awards on Thursday, with last year’s champions the Arctic Monkeys doing it again in 2007 with two more prizes. But the United States were also honored, with My Chemical Romance taking the Best International Band category and The Killers winning Best Video for “Bones.” “This is the verdict of the real passionate British music fans, the ones who keep the music scene alive at gigs up and down the country week-in and week-out,” said NME editor Conor McNicholas. “It’s a reflection of how strong the British music scene is that there’s so much to… Read more »
