Velvet Revolver members Slash and Scott Weiland could be fined for smoking onstage. The band members both lit up during the concert at the International Arena in Cardiff, Wales, on Thursday (June 7). Slash and Weiland reportedly chain-smoked their way through the show, despite a ban on smoking in any enclosed space that was passed by the Welsh legislature in April. The two musicians could each face a fine of $100, while the venue itself could be fined up to $5,000 for not stopping the artists from lighting up. The Cardiff city council confirmed it would investigate the matter, reports… Read more »
For a few hours on Friday (June 8), it looked like Paris Hilton wasn’t even going to show up for a hearing to determine whether she would be sent back to jail. And then, when she finally did make it to the courthouse, she probably wished she hadn’t. Judge Michael Sauer ordered Hilton back to jail, to serve out “the remainder of her sentence,” after a brief hearing, despite her lawyer’s pleas that a return would be “dangerous” to the heiress. The exact length of her stay was unclear at press time, though Sheriff Lee Baca, who released Hilton from… Read more »
Paris Hilton has been ordered to appear in court Friday for a hearing that will determine whether she should be sent back to jail, MSNBC reported late Thursday (June 7). Net radio stations got a boost Thursday with the introduction of a new Senate bill that would block an aggressive increase in the copyright royalties webcasters pay to record labels. The new Senate bill–called the Internet Radio Equality Act of 2007–is sponsored by Rep. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) and Rep. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas). It’s a companion bill to another piece of legislation of the same name introduced in the House last month by Reps. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) and Donald Manzullo (R-Ill.). The new higher rates were adopted in early March by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) at the federal copyright office.… Read more »
U.S. rapper Kanye West and British rocker Rod Stewart have been added to the lineup of artists performing at a July 1 concert to mark the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death in a car crash. Diana’s sons, princes William and Harry, are organizing the event at London’s Wembley stadium, and officials said Harry, due to go to Iraq in the coming weeks to serve in the army, would probably be allowed leave to return for it. “I’ve been advised that the commanding officer is likely to grant him leave for a short period of time,” the concert’s project director… Read more »
