New Found Glory, Coheed, Bad Religion Lead Warped Pack

When an event has been around for 13 years, it’s usually time to shake things up. And while Ozzfest chose to do that by going free, the Vans Warped tour opted to piece together one of its most diverse rosters to date. The tour, which will kick off June 28 at Chula Vista, California’s Coors Amphitheater, is currently slated to play 45 shows through an August 25 date in Los Angeles with a lineup that includes Coheed and Cambria, Bad Religion, New Found Glory, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Cute Is What We Aim For, Bayside and Canadian rapper K-os. No Rest For Yellowcard

It’s been more than a year since Yellowcard released their major-label debut, Ocean Avenue. And in the time since the album first slipped onto shelves, it has sold almost 1.3 million copies, spawned three hit singles and become a long-term resident in the Billboard Top 200. And now they’ve got to figure out a way to top all that. The big question is: When will they find the time? The band is currently in the final stages of a massive world tour that wraps up on Saturday in Irvine, California. But it’s not like they’re going to relax once the… Read more »

Inspection 12 and Near Miss Sign to Takeover Records

Santa Monica, Ca – Takeover Records has announced the addition of Near Miss and Inspection 12 to their label roster. Jacksonville artists Inspection 12 have been making great music since 1994. Their first large scale record, “In Recovery,” was released by Honest Don’s Barely Legal Recordings in May of 2001. Inspection 12’s influences range from punk to country, hard rock to classical. The band displays an incredible sense of maturity, which further validates that they’re far too talented to allow themselves to be pigeonholed. Near Miss, based out of Austin, TX, was started by Max Béchard and Jeremy Hernandez, two… Read more »

Punk Rock's Warped Tour Wins Tech Sponsors

Last winter, Vans Warped tour founder Kevin Lyman attended the Consumer Electronics Show to learn more about setting up backstage wireless Internet connections. The connections he made, however, were of a different type. Technology companies, eager to tap into the Warped tour’s young, tech-savvy fan base, have jumped on board as tour partners or sponsors. The 10th annual roadshow kicked off June 25 in Houston with a lineup including such bands as Bad Religion, Good Charlotte, NOFX, Thursday, New Found Glory, Simple Plan, The Vandals and Taking Back Sunday. The tour’s extensive sponsor list includes Memorex, Samsung, Cingular Wireless, Apple… Read more »

New Found Glory Keep It Real In The Face Of Success

Given the huge success of 2002’s Sticks and Stones, the members of New Found Glory aren’t expecting to top their previous high mark with Catalyst, which drops Tuesday. At the same time, they’re not letting its first single, “All Downhill From Here” dictate their future, either. “I try not to think ahead because I don’t want to jinx anything,” singer Jordan Pundik said. “I just want to let it ride out and see what happens.” Sticks and Stones, NFG’s third and most successful album so far, sold more than 91,000 copies in its first week and entered the Billboard albums… Read more »

Punk Label To RIAA: Actually, We Do Want To Just Give It Away

A tiny Brooklyn, New York, record label is redefining the age-old battle of the punks vs. the suits. Go-Kart Records founder Greg Ross has a problem with the RIAA’s use of lawsuits to fight online piracy, so he began giving away music for free on Friday. First he wrote an open letter to the recording industry trade group, lambasting its take on the problem of illegal downloading. Then he posted six full albums from his latest signings on the Go-Kart Web site. The response has been overwhelming. “Our tech guy just told me we had 80,000 hits in one second… Read more »

Good Charlotte Tries New Direction

In a pop-punk field increasingly populated with interchangeable sound-alike bands, Good Charlotte has made a bid to break away from the pack with its second CD, “The Young & the Hopeless.” Lead singer Joel Madden, who along with twin brother Benj writes the group’s songs, credits Eric Valentine, the producer of “The Young & the Hopeless,” with helping to expand the group’s musical horizons. “He challenged me to write different songs than just a bunch of songs that were kind of the same thing,” Joel Madden said. “He was like, ‘Why don’t you try writing some songs that you wouldn’t… Read more »
