50 Cent Dodges Bullets

Forget nine lives, feline-like 50 Cent has probably used up at least a dozen. Fiddy, who has been shot nine times and survived, was once again marked for death when a couple of unknown gunmen fired at the rapper and his posse on Wednesday. The former crack peddler turned superstar rapper was pulling into the parking lot of the Doubletree Hotel in Jersey City just after midnight on Wednesday morning when gunfire erupted. 50 Cent, aka Curtis Jackson, took cover in the hotel lobby say police, dodging at least 10 bullets in the process. Cops recovered three casings from a.45… Read more »

Metallica Kill 'Em All At New York Club Show – Review

Just when some old-school Metallica fans were ready to write the band off for crafting St. Anger – which prominently features a snare drum that sounds like a screwdriver hitting a trashcan – and for playing snippets of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and Lenny Kravitz’s “Are you Gonna Go My Way” at the VMAs, the band has redeemed itself. OK, they were doing fine before the VMAs. Few who attended Metallica’s Summer Sanitarium concerts walked away disappointed. The tour featured the band in peak form, bashing out its oldest and heaviest songs. However, a show on Friday for fan club… Read more »

Stars Mum on Stella McCartney Wedding

Celebrities including Madonna, Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri remained tightlipped about the apparent wedding of designer Stella McCartney and publisher Alasdhair Willis as they left this remote Scottish island Sunday. Pretenders singer Hynde would only say that the 31-year-old daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney looked “beautiful” when asked about the ceremony. “It was good. It has been a lovely week,” said Spiteri of the rock band Texas, as she boarded a coach to leave the island. Hordes of reporters, who have spent days trying to glean information about the closely guarded wedding, were left disappointed when both singers declined… Read more »

For those who forgot how brutal Chris Rock’s comedy can be, he took every chance to remind them while hosting the MTV Awards on Thursday night. A few pieces of the Rock: “Our next presenter saves a lot of money on Mother’s Day. Give it up for Eminem!” “You’ll be hearing those songs at strip clubs for years to come” – after Christina Aguilera performed “Dirrty.” “Our next presenter is being sued by more people that the Catholic church. The outage also cut the power to a number of summer tours, knocking Bob Dylan and Tori Amos offline and sending many other bands scurrying for backup plans and places to crash for the night. A Perfect Circle Illuminate The Darkness With Flawless New York Show – Review

With little pomp and no showboating, A Perfect Circle were all about the music in the first headlining performance in support of their upcoming album, Thirteenth Step. That shouldn’t surprise any APC fans or those familiar with shows by singer Maynard James Keenan’s other band, Tool. Never once did he holler, “Hello, New York” – in fact, he jokingly made a reference to New Jersey – nor did he ask if fans were ready to rock. It didn’t matter. He obviously was. And so were his bandmates, who took the stage in formation: guitarist Billy Howerdel at the front of… Read more »
