Rick Van Santen, a co-president of Goldenvoice, a Los Angeles concert promotion company that ushered punk rock from the fringes of the music scene to a wide audience, died last Sunday at his home in Ventura County of flu-related complications, his Goldenvoice partner Paul Tollett said. Making good on its promise to sue online pirates, the recording industry filed a round of lawsuits against computer users in federal courthouses Monday. More than 260 civil lawsuits were levied against people targeted by the cutthroat campaign, which the Recording Industry Association of America hopes will stamp out the rampant piracy believed to be causing a slump in record sales. The USO will send rock band New Found Glory to meet with service members at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii Aug. 14. On their first USO tour, band members will visit with troops, sign autographs and tour the base. A Florida-based rock band, New Found Glory launched their musical career in 1997. In another move to reduce its debt, AOL Time Warner Inc. said Friday it is selling Warner Music’s DVD and CD manufacturing businesses to a Canadian company for $1.05 billion. The cash deal was the latest in a series of moves aimed at cutting AOL’s debt from nearly $26 billion at the beginning of this year to $20 billion by the end of 2004.
