Leland Cobain spreads a few yellowing pieces of art across his dining room table. The Aberdeen Museum of History, in the next town over, has asked him to contribute to an exhibit about his grandson, late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. There’s one drawback to Blink-182’s decision to release “I Miss You” as their next single. “This is the thing, the song’s really hard to play,” singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge said backstage at KROQ-FM’s annual Almost Acoustic Christmas on Sunday. “We’ve never played it before. We might play it in the future, or we might have it on a ghetto blaster onstage and we might do an interpretive dance. In a landmark display of canine-feline solidarity, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog has lashed out at professed kitty-hater Clay Aiken in a new ad campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The early buzz on the new Britney Spears album was that it would be adventurous, atmospheric and above all, adult. Two out of three ain’t bad. Sure, Britney has a bit of a trip-hop vibe on her upcoming album, just not enough to justify her love for her mentor Madonna’s latter-day direction. In the Zone is by no means Britney’s Ray of Light. Johnny Cash, “The Man in Black” who became a towering figure in American music with such hits as “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line,” and “A Boy Named Sue,” died Friday. He was 71. “Johnny died due to complications from diabetes, which resulted in respiratory failure,” Cash’s manager, Lou Robin, said in a statement issued by Baptist Hospital in Nashville. He said Cash died at the hospital at 1 a.m. EDT. “I hope that friends and fans of Johnny will pray for the Cash family to find comfort during this very difficult time,” Robin said. It may have been the year of 50 Cent, but he’ll play second fiddle to Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake and country legend Johnny Cash heading into the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. Elliott led the pack with eight nominations for her eye-popping “Work It” video when the nods were announced Thursday morning. Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong was arrested early Sunday in Berkeley, California, for driving under the influence. The punk-rocker was pulled over just before 1 a.m. after authorities spotted his black BMW convertible speeding, according to Berkeley Police spokesperson Mary Kusmiss. After Armstrong failed sobriety and Breathalyzer tests, he was taken to jail and booked for misdemeanor drunk driving. He was released later that morning on $1,200 bail and will be arraigned later this month. Kusmiss said the 30-year-old singer was “very cooperative” and did not inform authorities of his celebrity.
