Henley Fires Back at RIAA

Days after Recording Industry Association of America president Hilary Rosen lashed out at the Recording Artists Coalition in a speech at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas, accusing the group of oversimplifying its dispute with record companies over recording contracts, Eagles and RAC leader Don Henley fired back. “Hilary Rosen is, and always has been, the one who engages in gross oversimplification of the issue designed to elicit a sympathetic response from the media, lawmakers and the public,” Henley says. “Ms. Rosen well knows that this is a very complex matter that will require lengthy discussions by… Read more »

Train Has Trouble With the Girls

Being in a rock band doesn’t always guarantee beautiful women at your disposal – just ask the guys in Train. Singer Pat Monahan says their new single “She’s on Fire” is mostly about guys like them not being able to get hot chicks, though guitarist Jimmy Stafford jokes that isn’t the case anymore. However, Monahan and guitarist Rob Hotchkiss no longer care either way since they’re both married. The rest of the band may find plenty of attention now that the band’s “Drops of Jupiter” has won a Grammy for best rock song. Hotchkiss told reporters that the band’s achievements… Read more »

Their efforts reached a crescendo Tuesday night with four Los Angeles protest concerts featuring such stars as the Eagles, Billy Joel, Stevie Nicks, Crow, No Doubt, The Offspring, The Dixie Chicks, Trisha Yearwood, Beck, and Eddie Vedder. The artists are demanding new relations with record labels, including fairer contracts and more oversight of accounting practices. “It’s time that the artistic community grows up,” said singer Don Henley, who urged artists not to ignore the business of… Read more »
