SARS Continues To Affect Concerts, Promo Dates Worldwide

Sony Music Names Head of U.S. Unit


Columbia Records chairman Don Ienner was named president of Sony Music’s U.S. division on Monday. Ienner’s new post was announced by Sony Music Chairman and CEO Andrew Lack. In a statement, Lack said Ienner had made Columbia “one of the most powerful and respected labels in the history of popular music.” Ienner, 51, will oversee all of Sony’s music labels, including Columbia, Epic, Sony Music Nashville and Sony Music Nashville. Ienner takes over a position left vacant by former Sony Music chairman Tommy Mottola. Used Guitarist Arrested After Show, Claims Mistreatment


Quinn Allman, guitarist for the Used, was arrested for opposing a police officer on Tuesday after a show in Jacksonville, Florida, and was imprisoned for almost 24 hours. Allman was busted while trying to prevent Lt. J.T. Crotty from arresting fan Crystal Joanne Gordon, who was loitering in the venue’s parking lot after the show. “I was signing autographs, and this cop had his searchlights shined on everybody, and he says, ‘You have to leave the premises right now. Linkin Park's 'Meteora' Has Lasting Chart Impact


Linkin Park’s “Meteora” maintains its No. 1 standing on the Billboard 200 for a second-straight week, despite a hefty 67% drop in U.S. sales. The band’s sophomore Warner Bros. album sold 265,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, bringing its two-week sales total above the 1 million mark. The No. 1 entry of “Meteora” on The Billboard 200 followed a similar opening on the U.K. album chart. Sony Music Entertainment Cuts 1,000 Jobs


Sony Music Entertainment said Friday it is eliminating 1,000 jobs in a move that had been expected as the company seeks to become more efficient. The cuts come to about 10 percent of Sony Music’s worldwide work force of approximately 10,000 people. Roughly 600 of the cuts will come from the company’s U.S. operations, specifically its manufacturing and corporate and label businesses, a source close to the company said, adding that the rest of the reductions will be overseas and no other cuts are expected. They may have both won Grammy Awards but the editors at People magazine say that India.Arie and Kelly Rowland were big losers when it came to fashion. The magazine’s website list what it considers some of the fashion faux pas at the awards show, and Arie and Rowland didn’t make the cut. The magazine says it liked Arie’s haircut but her outfit needed improvement. Rowland’s outfit left much to be desired as well, according to the editors.
