Spears, Lopez Join MTV Kudos


MTV has signed up thrushes Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez to perform at the 18th annual Video Music Awards, scheduled for Sept. 6 in Gotham. Rapper Ja Rule and rock band Staind have also been brought on board, the cable channel revealed Wednesday, bringing this year’s VMA performers tally to eight. ‘N Sync, Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys and U2 were previously announced as part of the entertainment lineup. 'N Sync's "Celebrity'' Has 1.9 Mil Fans


Rumors of teen-pop’s death have been greatly exaggerated, as genre standard-bearers ‘N Sync showed convincingly by posting the second-best debut-week sales numbers in history. Nearly 1.9 million copies of the superstar quintet’s Jive release “Celebrity” flew from retail shelves in the week ended Sunday, according to data compiled by SoundScan. That’s about a half-million short of the group’s record-breaking sales week with its prior LP “No Strings Attached,” which bowed in March 2000 and has sold 10.6 million copies nationwide to date. Daft Punk In Toon


French techno dance act Daft Punk have been tooned by the Cartoon Network. This week, the cable channel merged the music of Daft Punk with a serialized story created by famed Japanese animator Leiji Matsumoto. The featured videos, “One More Time,” “Aerodynamic,” and “Digital Love,” make up the first three chapters of a story. The fourth video, “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” will exclusively premiere on Cartoon Network during a special music-video edition of Toonami Midnight Run – scheduled to air August 31. Nickelodeon Forming Label With Jive Records

MTV is planning a second round of episodes of its new documentary show “Becoming,” in which fans “become” their favorite musicians. The cable channel picks people up in a limousine, gives them makeovers, teaches them choreography and lets them recreate their favorite videos. VH1 Save The Music To Benefit From JNN Foundation


Singer A.J. McLean has launched the JNN Foundation, named for his alter ego “Johnny No-Name,” to focus on efforts to raise awareness, as well as funds, for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Madonna Brings Music To HBO


Madonna is the latest jewel in the crown that has become HBO’s original music programming. Peter Buck Arrested For Busting Up First Class


R.E.M guitarist Peter Buck was arrested Saturday (April 21) for allegedly assaulting two British Airways cabin crew members in the first class section of flight BA48 from Seattle to London, Scotland Yard spokesman Chris Cairns said. Buck was met by police at Heathrow Airport Saturday morning around 11 a.m. after the British Airways flight crew radioed ahead that a first class passenger had assaulted members of the cabin crew and upended a trolley.
