Rolling Stone magazine goes down a size

Rolling Stone magazine unveiled plans on Monday for a major design overhaul, scaling down its signature large-format pages to a standard magazine size in a bid to bolster advertising and sagging newsstand sales. The U.S. pop culture magazine will end the oversized look that for more than 30 years has distinguished it from rival publications starting with an issue set to hit newsstands on October 17. “It feels to me just like a natural step for us to take,” said Will Dana, managing editor at Rolling Stone. “It’s always exciting to shake things up a bit and to grow and… Read more »

Sources tell Billboard.com that Andrews has decided to retire after shepherding Rock’s latest album, “Rock N Roll Jesus,” to release last week. “Rock N Roll Jesus” is Kid Rock’s first No. 1 album on The Billboard 200, selling just over 170,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Fall Back Boy

Pete Wentz was treated to dinner a few months ago by Lyor Cohen, the renowned rap promoter and U.S. music chief of Warner Music Group. Wentz, 28, is the eyelinered heartthrob and bassist of punk band Fall Out Boy; but this dinner was in celebration of the hit single just released by another band, Panic! At the Disco, which records on Wentz’s own label, Decaydance. “He asked me, ‘What do you want out of life, Pete?’” Wentz says. His answer was flip: business cards. The next day he received a stack of cards listing his name and a new title:… Read more »

Panic! At The Disco Planning 'Love Story'

You’d think the guys in Panic! at the Disco would have a whole buncha goals in mind for the follow-up to their platinum debut, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. But, no – they have just one. “Actually, our whole goal for this CD is to create a close relationship with Dr. Dre. You know, getting some sort of business plan worked out,” bassist Jon Walker laughed. “I mean, the guy’s a genius.” Of course he’s joking (we think), because there’s clearly more on the line for them this time around. Which is probably why, earlier this month, they announced… Read more »

CNN Ditching 'Crossfire' – Jon Stewart: 2, Tucker Carlson: 0

Last October, in one of the election season’s most memorable media moments, “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart pleaded with CNN “Crossfire” hosts Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson to “stop, stop, stop hurting America” with their “partisan hackery.” Well, Jon, it looks like the healing can begin. New CNN President Jonathan Klein told The New York Times this week that the cable news network is getting away from “head-butting debate shows,” and that both Carlson and “Crossfire” will soon leave CNN. Carlson had reportedly decided to leave the network months ago, but a shift in CNN’s overall approach and editorial… Read more »
