Dixie Chicks, Sony Close to Deal


After 10 months of legal wrangling, the Dixie Chicks are expected to sign a new deal soon with Sony Music Entertainment, according to Billboard magazine. Sony has been home for the Texas trio for the past five years, but recent rumors had the Chicks heading to Capitol Records. Last July, the group’s attorneys served Sony with notice that its contract was terminated “by reason of Sony’s material misconduct and material breaches.” The Chicks still owed five albums, so Sony responded with a lawsuit to keep the group from leaving. If C-Murder had any hope of ever posting bond in his second-degree murder trial, it’s gone now, as a Gretna, Louisiana, judge revoked his $2 million bond on Monday because of witness safety concerns. The 22-year-old pop star watched his team, Nick Carter Racing, win the first race of this year’s American Power Boat Association Offshore Tour on Sunday. Layne Staley, Alice In Chains Singer, Dead At 34


Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley was found dead in his Seattle home on Friday evening. The King County Medical Examiner positively identified Staley’s body on Saturday (April 20), following an autopsy. Exact time and cause of death are pending, as laboratory results could take several weeks, a spokesperson said. Staley was 34.
