Aerosmith Tops Kiss In Opening-Night Battle – Review

Aerosmith and Kiss launched their coheadlining tour on Saturday (August 2) at the Ctnow.com Meadows Music Center in Hartford, Connecticut. Befitting their status as heavyweight champions, both bands came to win, but Aerosmith was declared the victor at the end of the night. Following a quick opening set by Saliva that was received fairly, if not enthusiastically, Kiss came out to their traditional “You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best” introduction and played a hit-filled 14-song set including “Detroit Rock City,” “Shout It Out Loud,” “I Love It Loud,” “God Of Thunder,” and “Rock And Roll All Nite.” However,… Read more »

Russians: Nyet So Fast, Lance

For those still scratching their heads over Lance Bass’ plans to become the youngest space traveler ever, you’re not alone. A spokesman for Russia’s space agency, Rosaviakosmos, said Thursday that they haven’t started any talks with Netherlands-based MirCorp about sending the ‘N Syncer into space. And while it’s entirely possible Bass could still realize his $25 million Rocket Man dream, the pop star’s announcement “is as if I said I had bought Australia,” Rosaviakosmos spokesman Sergei Gorbunov tells Reuters. “MirCorp has no right to sell these flights. They have no link to Rosaviakosmos, we have no contract linking us.” They… Read more »

Six Years After Jerry, Grateful Dead Music Never Stops

The Grateful Dead played their final show more than six years ago. And thanks to a career-retrospective box set, an endless stream of live CDs, a documentary film featuring late guitarist Jerry Garcia and steady touring by the group’s surviving members and their new ensembles, the Dead’s legacy isn’t close to fading away. A 12-CD box set, The Golden Road (1965-1973), out October 16, chronicles the Dead’s six-year stint on the Warner Bros. label with remastered versions of each album – from Grateful Dead (1967) to History of the Grateful Dead Vol. I (Bear’s Choice) (1973) – along with studio… Read more »

Jay-Z, Jadakiss Say Beef Good, Violence Bad

“What’s beef?” the Notorious B.I.G. asked on his song of the same title. “Beef is when your moms ain’t safe up in the streets.” There’s no need for rappers’ mothers to put on the Kevlar just yet, but their MC sons are spewing a lot of venom at each other these days. Jadakiss has been beefing with Beanie Sigel. Sigel has made it clear he’s not feeling DMX. DMX may have it in for Jay-Z; Nas definitely does. Nas is also going at it with Sigel, Cormega, Freeway and Memphis Bleek. Jadakiss swears it’s mostly hype. “The industry ain’t like… Read more »

'NSYNC Tour Opener: Dirty Pop And Matching Chaps

‘NSYNC have found themselves in a pickle. The group’s forthcoming album, Celebrity, has been shelved until mid summer. The Backstreet Boys’ most recent record, a bellwether for Celebrity if ever there was one, wasn’t quite the huge success the Boys’ previous two were, causing some observers to even decree teen pop dead. And come to think of it, no one in ‘NSYNC is even a teen any more. What’s a boy band to do? Well, creating the largest musical production in concert history is one solution. The PopOdyssey Tour began Wednesday in Jacksonville’s Alltel Stadium with a video montage chronicling… Read more »
