The number of people listening to streaming audio over the Internet has continued to increase despite the decisions made by some traditional AM and FM stations to pull their programs off the Internet. That’s the word from MeasureCast, which reports that its Internet Radio Index for the final full week in April increased 2.4 percent-from 132 to 135-demonstrating that listeners are not abandoning Internet radio. MeasureCast’s weekly index tracks the total number of hours streamed by on-line broadcasters, and is a representation of the trend in Total Time Spent Listening across a spectrum of stations. July 24 will be ground zero for Slipknot’s as-yet-untitled second album, according to a Roadrunner Records spokesperson. The follow-up to their eponymous 1999 debut was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Ross Robinson. Next week production will move cross-country to New York, where Andy Wallace will start mixing new songs “People Equal Shit,” “The Heretic Anthem,” “Disaster Piece” and just-announced “New Abortion” among other album tracks, with the help of two unnamed band members. Pop veterans Steely Dan had a surprising run Wednesday night at the 43rd annual Grammy Awards, taking home three awards for “Two Against Nature” and the single “Cousin Dupree.” Steely Dan’s first album of new material in two decades earned album of the year trophy, besting Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP” and albums by Paul Simon, Radiohead and Beck. ‘N Sync are ready to tear up a few more hearts with a new studio album and major tour.
