Back on the road after an 18-month hiatus, No Doubt will be playing warmup dates for veteran Irish rockers U2 into early December. But far from feeling overshadowed by Bono and friends, Stefani sees the U2 gig as the perfect way for No Doubt to bring itself back in public view and prepare for the Dec. 11 release of its… Read more »

MTV Makes Mark in Enemy Camp

While Ali G was insulting German celebrities in a naff bit of hosting in the country’s financial capital, many people were wondering why MTV had selected the less than musical city on the Main for this year’s event. Was it for the internet address, MTV.de, which was held by a local transit company until MTV announced that it had decided to come to Frankfurt? More probable is that the music television pioneer was trying to boost its visibility in Europe’s largest media market, a place where the locals are, in US parlance, kicking its ass. Viva Media, which is listed… Read more »

Frantic, screaming fans filled the streets and stopped traffic in the middle of Times Square when Jackson made what his record company called his first-ever in-store appearance, proving he still has luster on his crown. Michael! Michael!”… Read more »

Springsteen Wards Off Legal Challenge

Rock legend Bruce Springsteen on Tuesday warded off a last-ditch challenge to a London court victory won by him nearly three years ago in respect of unauthorized use of his music. In a complex case watched closely by the international music community, the High Court in 1998 blocked British company Masquerade Music from releasing an album of the star’s earlier work. That decision was upheld by the Appeal Court earlier this year and now three law lords in the country’s highest court have given it their backing as well. After a private hearing and without giving any reasons for their… Read more »

Referring to the events of September 11th, Young used every bit of his allotted time onstage this year – from his two-song opening to the all-star jam bookending the day’s entertainment – to deliver his unwavering, though not necessarily popular, peacenik message… Read more »
