Wiser Named CTO at Sony Music


Sony Music Entertainment Senior Vice President Al Smith this week announced that Philip R. Wiser has been named Chief Technology Officer. Wiser will be based in New York and will report directly to Smith. In this newly-created position, Wiser will be responsible for overseeing technical operations of the company’s existing digital media initiatives, including electronic music distribution (EMD) systems, as well as for developing and implementing new digital media technologies. Linkin Park and Creed both increased their multiplatinum status with their latest releases, and No Doubt’s Rock Steady reached platinum in recent certifications by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA). Linkin Park has pushed 2 million more copies of Hybrid Theory, making it seven times platinum, while Creed’s Weathered, which was released at the beginning of the winter, has reached five times platinum for sales of 5 million copies. U2 had the Super Bowl halftime stage all to itself, and the Irish rockers delivered a moving tribute to America and the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. No Doubt To Launch Rock Steady Roadshow In March


No Doubt are taking their Rock Steady to the streets, beginning in mid-March. The ska-turned-reggae rock quartet will launch its first proper tour in support of its latest album, Rock Steady, with two offshore dates in Puerto Rico and Venezuela, on March 14 and 16, respectively, according to an Interscope Records spokesperson. 'NSYNC Bringing Smash Mouth, Ginuwine On Tour


‘NSYNC have reached outside of the singing group world for the opening acts on their upcoming Celebrity 2002 Tour, recruiting Smash Mouth and Ginuwine. The raspy rockers and the sensual R&B singer are confirmed for the outing, though an ‘NSYNC spokesperson said it hasn’t been determined which artist will play which dates. A legal battle over 30-year-old Allman Brothers recordings is rambling through the courts due to “procedural stalling” by Universal Music Group, the band’s lawyer said Monday, pledging to appeal a bid to shift the case to federal court. Kid Rock has revealed dates to go along with the previously announced cites for his tour, which starts February 22 at the Wendler Arena in Saginaw, Michigan. Pearl Jam honors Joey Ramone on new single


Rock band Pearl Jam has paid tribute to late Ramones singer Joey Ramone on a recording released exclusively to Pearl Jam fan club members. A cover version of the pioneering punk band’s song “I Just Want To Have Something To Do” is one of four tracks featured on Pearl Jam’s annual 7-inch vinyl mailing. Ramone died of cancer last April, aged 49.
