Ah, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. A hallowed American institution and a can’t-miss event for Garfield fans. As the New York City-based parade progresses through the streets, so too does it run across almost every television screen in the nation. While the floats and balloons ranging from the Pillsbury Doughboy, Kermit The Frog, and Snoopy have remained iconic for years upon years, we are still fixated on the unbelievable alternative celebrity guest cameos through the mid-2000s and early 2010s. After all, what’s a better precursor to bizarre, unsolicited political dinner conversation than a live performance from Plain White T’s? These… Read more »
UK punkers The Menstrual Cramps have released their new single, “Body Politics,” and signed to Alcopop! Records. The band also announced headline shows in the new year, including Manchester Punk Fest, Outer Town Festival, and 2000 Trees. The song is based on a deeper political meaning of bodily autonomy and identity. With quick drums and a strong beat, the song kicks in by repeating the title and includes, “Body politics/Gender is performative/I didn’t choose my gender it was placed on me.” Clocking in under three minutes, it’s a good old-fashioned pointed punk song that challenges the status quo. Vocalist Emilia… Read more »

Indie-rock group, Mom Jeans has surprised us all today by dropping a new album, Bear Market. Technically the songs aren’t new, but the sound and execution is entirely fresh. Bear Market consists of sixteen popular Mom Jeans tracks completely re-imagined and re-worked into beautiful, new versions. The band has even given each track a different name, while still paying tribute to the original title. For example, “Edward 40Hands” is now just “40 hands“, “Death Cup” is now “death by cup“, and “What’s Up?” is now “wassup 😉.” We love the clever approach – recognizable but easily differentiated. “We had all… Read more »
UK rockers Neck Deep are getting us ready for their upcoming tour, with their new single “We Need More Bricks.” The track is will appear on their upcoming self-titled album, set to drop via Hopeless Records. One of the things that stands out in their new music is the message of fighting for what is right. Singer Ben Barlow says that the new song is the best the band has been, political-wise, “touching on everything from the monarchy, immigration, protest laws, and international wars. We find ourselves at a cross-section in the zeitgeist where bricks could be used to build… Read more »
