Good Charlotte Rocks DC – Review

“Some bands, when they go away for a while, people start talking bad about you.” said Benji, guitarist for Good Charlotte. “It’s good to come home and see all you kids still supporting us,” said lead singer, Joel, finishing his twin’s comment. Good Charlotte has always been a live band. Both their Self-Titled debut, as well as their sophomore effort, The Young and The Hopeless, tries to capture their spirit – and while some of the fun shines through the recording, nothing can match the energy of their live show. Playing to a packed crowd for their CD Release at… Read more »

Eminem's '8 Mile' Gets Thumbs-Up From Fest Crowd

8 Mile, the semi-autobiographical drama in which rapper Eminem makes his movie debut, might just be as good as Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind) once boasted. Playing to a packed house on Sunday night (September 8), director Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential) unspooled a “work-in-progress” version of the pic at the Toronto Film Festival. Tickets for the anticipated film were extremely difficult to come by, but apparently the around-the-block queue for seating was worth it. New York Post reviewer Lou Lumenick said the movie is “a rousing Rocky with rappers (that has) astonishing crossover appeal.” He also says the… Read more »

Drowning Pool's Williams Remembered As One Of Rock's Nicest

A day after the body of Drowning Pool frontman Dave Williams was discovered on the band’s tour bus, details remained scarce but memories of Williams as a fun-loving, kind-hearted character abounded. The 30-year-old singer was found in his bunk by members of Drowning Pool’s touring crew Wednesday afternoon, their publicist said. The band was in Manassas, Virginia, on its way to Thursday’s Ozzfest show in Bristow. An autopsy conducted Thursday morning proved inconclusive, according to a Prince William County police spokesperson. A cause of death is expected to be determined from toxicology tests, which generally take four to six weeks.… Read more »

Neurotica Moves To Main Stage of Ozzfest

Florida rockers, Neurotica, have jumped to the main stage on the August 3rd Ozzfest date at the Polaris Amphitheatre in Columbus, OH. The band will kick things off at 5pm. Audience reaction to Neurotica’s blistering set has been so intense that a few weeks ago tour organizers bumped up the band’s performance to a later, more desirable timeslot on the second stage. After Ozzy Osbourne announced last week that he’d be leaving the tour for three weeks in order to be with wife Sharon while she undergoes chemotherapy treatments, tour organizers made some adjustments to the lineup. “We feel proud… Read more »

VH1 Rocking with Revamp

Newly installed VH1 toppers Brian Graden and Christina Norman are moving quickly to put their stamp on the struggling music cable network, greenlighting an aggressive fall slate of series and specials aimed at building on the channel’s still-strong retro music brand. VH1 is also beefing up its “Movies That Rock” franchise, snagging the broadcast premiere of the Oscar-winning “Moulin Rouge” and several other theatricals. And rather than simply repurposing other networks’ music specials, Graden wants VH1 to sign A-level talent for original concert specials. The flurry of activity comes barely three months after Graden was named entertainment president of the… Read more »

Kelly Osbourne Sings With Andrew W.K. At New Jersey OzzFest

K elly Osbourne got up on stage and sang with super-hyped rocker A ndrew W.K. on Friday evening (July 19) when OzzFest hit the PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey. She chimed in on vocals for “She Is Beautiful,” which is found on Andrew W.K.’s debut, I Get Wet. “It was a very organic, circumstantial kind of thing,” said Andrew W.K. “It was sort of like, she’s here, I’m here. It’s her family’s whole operation. She seems like she might be sitting around wanting to do something. Maybe she would like to sing a song. ‘Kelly, would you like… Read more »

Papa Ozzy Bares Fangs Again As Ozzfest Hits Boston

When Ozzy Osbourne was chiefly known in middle America for decapitating winged creatures and urinating on the Alamo, he and his annual hard rock hoedown were greeted with protests, boycotts and prayer meetings. But, oh, what a difference a year makes. The former most-feared man in rock has now become its most beloved father figure, courtesy of the rib-tickling warts-and-all series “The Osbournes.” So as he returns to the road for the first time since becoming the toast of prime time, Ozzy and Ozzfest 2002 are being greeted not with protests but with open arms, and at least a few… Read more »

U.S. OzzFest Kicks Off Today, Sharon Says TV Show Won't Change It

OzzFest 2002 kicks off today (July 10) in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after the first two dates of the tour were postponed due to cancer surgery performed on tour mastermind Sharon Osbourne. This year’s festival faces heightened media scrutiny due to the unexpected success of the reality-based TV show The Osbournes. Sharon was asked if the show’s success will add to the success of this year’s OzzFest. “No, because it’s sold out for the last seven years, and it’s selling out this year,” she said. “So as far as Ozzy’s musical career, it’s as big as it ever has been. So, this… Read more »

Ozzfest Gets Czech Republic Roaring – Review

Strahov Stadium has had it all – communist rallies, anti-globalization protests, gymnastics exhibitions, drive-through movies and, now, Ozzfest. The crumbling structure, which stands as the largest stadium in the world per square foot, lent itself well to Ozzy Osbourne and his latest touring comrades, who hit the venue Thursday night for the seventh stop on the metal tour. With their stage parked in the middle of the field, the hard rockers used only half of the 200,000-capacity stadium, carving out an almost cozy cradle for Bohemia’s metalheads within the concrete monolith. While the tour got off to a less-than-grand beginning… Read more »
