James Taylor Remains A Friend Of Summer

With a new wife, new twin sons and even a new band, veteran pop troubadour James Taylor is spending most of the next few months touring the amphitheaters of North America, a summer ritual as dependable as sunscreen and inflated concession stand prices. “I’m kind of grooved in on that kind of evening and a sort of summer-night experience,” says Taylor, 53, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who in February this year married Boston Symphony Orchestra publicist Caroline Smedvig. The couple’s sons were born in early April, via in vitro fertilization of a surrogate mother. The veteran singer-songwriter… Read more »

STP Make Surprise Appearance At Weenie Roast

This ninth edition of the KROQ Weenie Roast, which saw the annual all-day charity festival return to its traditional Irvine home after it was held in Anaheim last year, was largely divided into distinct segments representing two contrasting sides of modern rock music. There were the angry young hard rock bands (Disturbed, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Crazytown), who toiled under the hot afternoon sun, and the superior veteran headliners (Jane’s Addiction, Blink-182, 311, surprise guests Stone Temple Pilots), who brought the better music and benefited from their post-sunset show times. According to Petty’s rep, the musician, his bride and a few close family and friends remained in Sin City for their wedding on Sunday. Following the rather low-key ceremony (no, they were not married by an Elvis impersonator), the rather raucous party of twenty descended on Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Las Vegas to celebrate. Petty superfans can even order a copy of the wedding certificate for a… Read more »
