Weezer Won't Be Playing Warped Tour

Trek’s organizers say band pulled out; group’s spokesperson says contract was never signed. Say it ain’t so – Weezer have dropped off the Vans Warped Tour, according to a spokesperson for the summer skate-punk trek. The band’s Geffen publicist, however, said on Friday (April 6) that Weezer were never officially on the bill in the first place, despite an announcement by tour organizer Kevin Lyman Productions in early February. “They had the offer, but they never confirmed it,” Dennis Dennehy said. “The band apologizes for psyching anyone up inadvertently,” a posting on Weezer’s Web site said Friday. Blink-182 Get Hard On New Album

With a title like Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, which must be said aloud to be fully appreciated, it’s only appropriate for Blink-182 singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge to describe his band’s fourth full-length album as hard and fast. “This record is the hardest, fastest record that we’ve done,” DeLonge said from a San Diego studio where the band recently wrapped up recording. “It’s way more punk-rock than our previous records, and we’re excited about it.” Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, due June 12, follows 1999’s multiplatinum Enema of the State and last year’s successful live album, The Mark, Tom… Read more »

Pearl Jam Complete First Bootleg Series

Most major rock bands are good for one or two live albums during their careers. As of this week, Pearl Jam have 73 live albums to their credit. The Seattle rockers, now in their 11th year together, took the unprecedented step of releasing a budget-priced “official bootleg” CD from almost every show on their 2000 tour in order to combat pirates and to give fans a good deal. The roll-out occurred in three stages, ending Tuesday with the retail release of 24 CDs from the second half of the U.S. tour. Already in stores were 25 CDs from Europe and… Read more »

At The Drive-In Suspend Activity, Cancel April Dates

Seven years together and three full-length albums were apparently too much for At the Drive-In to handle. Citing a need for rest, the El Paso, Texas, rockers have unexpectedly suspended all band activity indefinitely, beginning with the cancellation of a handful of dates that were set to begin April 11 in San Diego, according to an official statement released Tuesday (March 27). “After a non-stop six-year cycle of record/tour/record/tour, we are going on an indefinite hiatus,” guitarist Omar Rodriguez said in the statement. “We need time to rest up and re-evaluate, just to be human beings again and to decide… Read more »

Eminem Discussing Movie Role, Releasing Action Figures

Although you’d expect him to be tired of explaining himself by now, Eminem is apparently set to star in a big-screen version of his life story. Movie producer Brian Grazer told “Access Hollywood” that he has cast the controversial rapper in a semi-autobiographical movie that will begin with his rocky childhood in the trailer parks of Detroit. “It’s a ‘Purple Rain’ kind of movie,” he told the syndicated television show Monday, referring to Prince’s 1984 film. “It’s a hip movie, loosely based on Eminem’s life, growing up in Detroit – an edgy story of his life. … I think he’ll… Read more »
