Madonna Still Rocks With 'Mother Of All Shows'

Madonna still rocks and rules the world of pop – her sold-out Drowned World tour has set fans alight and sparked rave reviews. On the first date of the global tour two weeks ago the “Material Mom” had a capacity crowd at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi at her spike-heeled feet – and she delivered. From behind the cavorting bodies of dancers, the queen of pop glided onto the stage – hailed by critics as one of her most sophisticated yet. Flying through the air on trapeze wire, riding a mechanical bull and donning a punk-inspired kilt in honor of her… Read more »

Justin Timberlake Discuss Death Rumor

NSYNC’s Justin Timberlake says he was just as concerned as many of his fans last week by a false report that had him in a coma and his girlfriend Britney Spears dead after a car accident.  The two deejays who perpetrated the hoax have now been fired from their jobs at a Dallas radio station.  “I know the first thing I did was call Britney because I was, like, ‘Well maybe it got twisted, maybe something did happen to her,’” said Timberlake, 20, yesterday in Toronto while conducting interviews along with his fellow NSYNC bandmates.  “‘Cause she was in L.A.… Read more »

Foos Begin Work On New Album

Despite admitting they are anxious to take a break, the Foo Fighters are preparing to record the follow up to 1999’s Nothing Left to Lose. “As much as we’d like to take a vacation and enjoy life outside of the band, I think we’ve finally realized that the best part about life is this band, and there’s nothing we’d rather do,” writes Foos frontman Dave Grohl in a post on the band’s Web site, www.foofighters.com. “So, we’ve been demo-ing a bunch of new songs and it looks like it won’t be too long before we really start in on the… Read more »

Sunny Day Real Estate Close

After nine on-and-off years, Emo-rock trailblazers Sunny Day Real Estate have called it quits. The band had been at work on the follow-up to last year’s The Rising Tide but, because of business woes, has decided not to continue. According to the band’s statement on its official Web site (www.sunnydayrealestate.net), a “string of bad luck” with management companies and Arista Records ceasing to distribute the band’s label Time Bomb Recordings made a “European tour and advertising for a new album near impossible. As frustrations built, progress on the new album became stagnant at times. Not wanting to build personal tensions,”… Read more »

Reconciled TLC Recording New Album, Solo Projects

Being a member of TLC means walking a fine line between love and… dislike. The trio’s bickering has been well-documented – enough so that many believed their most recent album, 1999’s Fan Mail, would be their last. The word that Chilli and Left Eye were working on solo albums, while T-Boz was raising a family with her hoo-bangin’ husband Mack 10, all but sealed the threesome’s demise for many. As Chilli tells it, though, while it may be hard for the crazy, sexy and cool trio to live with each other sometimes, it’s even tougher for them to live apart.… Read more »

Dido Talks Tour, Britney

On Dido’s North American tour, which kicks off next week in Vancouver, she’ll offer fans a preview of her next album. In addition to performing material from her triple-platinum No Angel (which was propelled by Eminem sampling the track “Thank You” for his song “Stan”), the British chanteuse will introduce three new songs into her set, “See the Sun,” “Don’t Leave Home” and “Do You Have a Little Time.” Although she has most of the new material written for her sophomore effort, fear of having them exposed via the Internet will keep her from debuting any more of the tracks… Read more »

Jill Scott Sings With Isleys

This time around for the Isley Brothers, “that lady” is Jill Scott. Also joining Ronald and Ernie Isley are R. Kelly, Lucy Pearl’s Rafael Saadiq, Jimmy Jam and Avant. Kelly produced the gangsta-minded track “Contagious,” on which Ron Isley reprises his role of notorious thug Mr. Biggs, the alter ego he debuted in Kelly’s “Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)” video. Eternal also features a collaboration with the late Curtis… Read more »

Arizona Desert Is Muse To DMX'S Ears

A rapper’s muse is a curious thing. While some MCs have been known to light candles in the studio, watch old TV shows or even indulge in the occasional intoxicant for inspiration, DMX found his inspiration to breathe fire by chillin’ in the serenity of Arizona’s rattlesnake-inhabited desert. “It’s been a beautiful experience,” said producer Dame Grease, who spent a month and a half there recording DMX’s fourth LP, tentatively titled The Ears. “We had the most fun ever.” Grease, who laid down 10 tracks for DMX’s debut album, It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot, is going back to the… Read more »

Aretha Franklin Collaborates On CD

Aretha Franklin is usually the headliner, but the Queen of Soul has agreed to a guest appearance on a live recording by Detroit-born saxophonist James Carter. Franklin’s participation is expected to give the recording a pop-culture glitter that could introduce Detroit jazz to a broader audience. “It’s an homage to what happens live when I’m in Detroit,” he told the Detroit Free Press. “I want to let folks know this is where I come from and that there’s still the jazz spirit here.” Carter, 32, said Wednesday he had not yet ironed out details with Franklin, but the singer had… Read more »
