Simple Plan Lose Member At Download Festival

Simple Plan’s guitarist Jeff Stinco was notably absent from Simple Plan’s Download set on Friday (June 13th). He grabbed a last minute flight back to Canada for ‘personal reasons’. The band was keen to fulfil their commitments and play the metal festival, but struggled on stage without the aid of their much loved lead guitarist. Front man, Pierre Bouvier seemed confused, telling the crowd, “It’s great to be in Birmingham”, when they were actually in Donninton. Simple Plan played a shortened set including ‘Your Love is a Lie’, ‘You’re Gone’, ‘Welcome to My Life’, ‘Generation’ and ‘I’d Do Anything’ before… Read more »

Simple Plan A Global Sensation

“SIMPLE PLAN,” the long-awaited new album from Lava/Atlantic recording group Simple Plan, has made a triumphant chart debut, both here and around the world. The Montreal-based band’s third studio effort — which features the singles “When I’m Gone” and “Your Love Is A Lie” — was the Billboard 200’s highest-charting debut of the week at #14, while also placing high on a variety of additional tallies, including #3 on “Top Rock Albums,” #4 on “Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums,” and #7 on “Top Digital Albums.” In addition, the album reached the #1 spot on the iTunes Store’s “Top Pop Albums” ranking.… Read more »

Simple Plan emboldened by producer

For Simple Plan, the multimillion-selling pop-punk band from Montreal, “The End” was also a new beginning. After a year writing material for the follow-up to 2004’s “Still Not Getting Any…,” the band was struggling to find a way forward, drummer Chuck Comeau says. But last spring in Miami — where Simple Plan had gone to test-drive some songs in the studio with producer Danja (Nelly Furtafo, Justin Timberlake) — it became clear the group could forge a bold new sound. “It really clicked for the first time in Miami when we came up with ‘The End,”‘ Comeau says, referring to… Read more »

Britney Spears Producer Leads Simple Plan Farther Down Pop Path With Third LP

There comes a time in every band’s career when it has to choose between staying on the well-worn path or taking a detour onto the road less certain. For Simple Plan, that decision was made earlier this year when they headed down to Miami’s Hit Factory studios to work with producer Nate “Danjahandz” Hills, Timbaland’s protégé and the man responsible for Britney Spears’ “Gimme More.” “We’re a band that’s sold something like 7 million records, had two records that did really well, so we had to find a way to change without changing, to kind of reinvent ourselves,” frontman Pierre… Read more »

Simple Plan Team Up With MADD For Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign

Simple Plan’s somber video for their song “Untitled” – which shows the far-reaching affects of drinking and driving – has been embraced by fans and program directors alike, having captured the #1 spot on Thursday’s edition of “TRL.” And now they’re getting props from a somewhat unlikely source. The band has entered into a partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and will attach a message from the organization to the end of the “Untitled” video, according to a spokesperson for SP’s label, Lava Records. “Traffic crashes are the #1 killer of teens, and nearly one-third of teen traffic deaths are… Read more »

Simple Plan Shoot Sober Video With Drunk-Driving Plot

Perhaps Simple Plan and Good Charlotte will spend their upcoming co-headlining tour discussing the works of existentialist Jean-Paul Sarte or decrying the appointment of ultraconservative Paul Wolfowitz as the head of the World Bank. Because, wow, both groups have gotten plenty serious all of a sudden. It all started last week, when Good Charlotte filmed the woe-is-the-world video for their new single, “We Believe”. And now Simple Plan are upping the angst ante with the clip for their new single, “Untitled.” In the video – directed by Marc Klasfeld (Sum 41, Thursday) – the normally rambunctious Montreal pop-punkers are tackling… Read more »

Good Charlotte, Simple Plan Launching Joint Tour In May

The milk chocolate of Good Charlotte’s goth-punk, the peanut-butter smoothness of Simple Plan’s pop-punk: Two great tastes that… well, you know where we were going with that. What could be called the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup of “TRL”-friendly punk tours will kick off May 3 in Kansas City, Missouri, and travel across North America through June 5. The idea for the joint tour was hatched earlier this month when both bands hung out backstage before the MTV Asia Aid benefit concert in Thailand. When they hit the stage, Good Charlotte’s Benji and Joel Madden and Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier each… Read more »
