Fall Out Boy, Paul Wall All Smiles; Civic Tour Under Way

Fall Out Boy’s headlining stint on this year’s Honda Civic Tour had a rough beginning last month. In fact, the trek didn’t start at all. In April, two weeks before they were slated to hit the road, FOB announced that the 43-city North American run would be delayed a month due to “health concerns.” Now the tour is finally under way – it began Friday in Denver . But at the kickoff, it was another artist on the bill who was drawing a lot of the attention: Paul Wall. The People’s Champ is the only hip-hop artist on a bill… Read more »

Gym Class Heroes Graduate to Big Leagues

For then 15-year-old Travis McCoy, high school gym class was nothing more than an excuse to chat about music with buddy Matt McGinley. McCoy, who was an aspiring rapper, was the frontman for a local band, and McGinley played drums for another in their native Geneva, N.Y. The summer after sophomore year, McGinley’s band landed a party gig, and McCoy, who happened to be at the same gathering, stepped to the mic and began to rhyme along with it. Thus Gym Class Heroes was born and went on to release three independent albums before signing to Fall Out Boy principal… Read more »

Fall Out Boy, 'High' on the Charts

Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz is far more recognizable than the average rock band bassist. With jet-black asymmetrical bangs, slightly smeared eyeliner and a toothy grin, Wentz certainly makes for a memorable image, but it’s his public antics that have created such an unforgettable impression. “I honestly don’t care what the perception is of me to the world,” says the 27-year-old, while sipping on a Starbucks’ vanilla latte on a rainy day in New York City. “It’s a weird thing to have come to, but after you’ve gone through the ringer so many times you don’t care. But I do… Read more »

Timberlake Scores Third Hot 100; Fall Out Boy Slips Again

Justin Timberlake scores his third No. 1 hit from the Jive album “FutureSex/LoveSounds” this week as “What Goes Around, Comes Around” zooms 8-1 in its 11th week on the Hot 100. The cut also enjoyed a 143% sales gain and a 9-1 climb on the Hot Digital Songs tally following its performance on the Feb. 11 Grammy Awards. Back on the Hot 100, Ludacris’ “Runaway Love” featuring Mary J. Blige, which was also performed during the Grammys, rises 5-2. Last week’s chart-topper, Nelly Furtado’s “Say It Right,” drops to No. 3, followed by a No. 4 re-entry for the Dixie… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Can't Wait to See Police Tour

WEST HOLLYWOOD, California – When he was once asked, “Can you ever conceive of a circumstance in which the Police would do a reunion tour?,” Sting replied, “I think that’d be a good cause to have me certified insane.” So … “Yes, I am certifiably insane,” Sting joked Monday (February 12) at the Whiskey a Go Go after the above sound bite was played to begin a packed press conference announcing a Police reunion tour. “If anyone comes at me with white coats, just let them through.” More than 20 years after the Police last toured – behind 1983’s massively… Read more »

Fall Out Boy's One-Day Cross-Country Tour Takes Off

Say what you will about Fall Out Boy, the dudes are punctual. Facing a day during which they’ll play three shows in three cities across the country over the course of 19 hours, the band arrived at the “TRL” studios in Times Square bright-eyed and relatively bushy-tailed at the very un-rocking hour of 8 a.m., ready to kick off the festivities with a ripping performance in front of a throng of extremely vocal fans – many of whom had lined up at 6 a.m., braving subzero wind chills to secure a spot in the studio. “I’m not tired yet,” FOB… Read more »

Album Review: Fall Out Boy

Forget MySpace, viral nude pics, emo and eyeliner — Fall Out Boy has grander ambitions. With “Infinity on High,” a shamelessly melodic, wild and powerful pop record, the Chicago outfit has reinvented itself as the world’s biggest boy band. The set, which opens with an intro by Jay-Z, wraps catchy emo hooks around epic production employing huge harmonies, R&B grooves, samples and strings. But the real surprise is singer Patrick Stump, who explores his full vocal range and croons like a soulman. Fall Out Boy 2.0 is at its self-indulgent best on the funky “The Take Over, the Breaks Over”… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Hope New Album Will Stand Test Of Time

Fall Out Boy say they are immensely proud of their new album and hope it will still be listened to in a hundred years time. The band release “Infinity On High” through Universal on February 5 and in an interview with Gigwise, frontman Patrick Stump says it was an enjoyable experience to make. He said: “This was the most fun record to make. I just can’t wait to have it in my hands. “We’d written and done a lot of the work before we even hit the studio, so when we got into the studio we could just play with… Read more »

Behind The Scenes w/ Fall Out Boy

The quartet’s comfort in La-La Land has nothing to do with the Hollywood parties they’ve been frequenting and everything to do with the vibe of their long-awaited new album, ‘Infinity on High.’ Though ‘Infinity’ was born in the San Fernando Valley suburb just a few exits from Hollywood off the 101 freeway (“We’re a Burbank type of band,” bassist Pete Wentz says), the unique characteristic of Tinseltown was an unavoidable subject matter for the new album. “This is one of the best places to observe people,” he says. “And the interesting part about it is that Hollywood’s not actually, like,… Read more »
