Country Icon Chet Atkins, "Mr. Guitar,'' Dead At 77


Influential guitarist Chet Atkins, who helped modernize country music in the 1960s, paving the way for the massive commercial force that it is today, died in Nashville Saturday. He was 77. In 1973 and in 1997, Atkins had fought both colon cancer and brain cancer, surviving a number of surgeries. Atkins, enjoyed a multi-faceted career: as a sought-after session musician for the likes of Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers; as a prolific recording artist in his own right; and as a veteran Nashville talent scout. Linkin Park To Join STP, Staind On Family Values


Eerie rap-metal sextet Linkin Park will join Stone Temple Pilots and angst-ridden hitmakers Staind on the third edition of Family Values this fall. “As it stands right now, it’ll be Stone Temple Pilots, with us playing before them and Linkin Park playing before us, and then two unknown bands that I’m sure will rock also,” Staind frontman Aaron Lewis said. FullAudio Licenses BMG Catalog


FullAudio today announced a licensing agreement with BMG Music Publishing as the company prepares to launch a digital music subscription service later this year. The agreement between FullAudio and BMG Music Publishing is the first catalog-wide license from a major publisher for a cache-download subscription service. The non-exclusive, three-year accord allows FullAudio access to all available titles from BMG. VH1 Launches Web Service For Selling CDs


Cable TV’s music channel VH1 Tuesday unveiled a service to sell CDs on the Internet weeks before they hit retail shelves, becoming the latest in a string of announcements to spotlight rapid changes in music. Former Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks will kick off the service, dubbed “VH1 Hear Music First, on April 16 when she will make her new CD “Trouble in Shangri-La” available to fans at VH1.com before it lands in record stores on May 1. 'NSync Takes Home Three Blockbuster Entertainment Awards


‘NSync was the top musical act at the seventh annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards Tuesday (April 10) night at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium, winning Favorite CD (No Strings Attached), Favorite Single (“Bye, Bye, Bye”), and Favorite Pop Group. The major music categories were mostly split, however, with a poodle-haired Christina Aguilera snagging Favorite Female Artist, Eminem taking Favorite Male Artist, and Destiny’s Child walking off with Favorite Group of the Year.
