Vocalist and guitarist Deryk Whibley says that Sum was offered a slot on the tour with Metallica, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne, and the Deftones, but he thought that his band might not gel with the lineup. “I think we got offered some of the Metallica tour, but we’re not doing that,” Whibley said. “It was just too…We would love to tour with Metallica, but all the bands on the bill were just too weird for what we’re doing. Durst Dishes Alleged Britney Nookie On Howard Stern Show

The he-said/she-said between Britney Spears and Fred Durst went into overdrive Thursday morning when the Limp Bizkit frontman offered intimate details about his professional and personal relationship with the singer on Howard Stern’s syndicated radio show. “I swear on my son Dallas’ baby blue eyes I was telling the truth [about our relationship],” said a groggy Durst, who admitted to being out late the night before. Stern and his crew egged him on for salacious details for about a half an hour. “This [relationship] went on for a little while, that’s what’s pretty unbelievable about this crap she’s saying,” Durst… Read more »

Vignettes From the Grammy Awards

Despite concerns that the Grammy Awards would become a forum for anti-war sentiment, most political messages were muted. “NO WAR” was written in silver letters on Sheryl Crow’s guitar strap as she performed, although her hair usually covered up most of the “NO.” Bonnie Raitt slipped in a four-word message, “let’s build some peace,” before handing out an award. And No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani wore a halter top emblazoned with the word, “love,” and combat fatigue hot pants. “I hope we all are in agreeance that this war should go away as soon as possible,” said Limp Bizkit lead singer… Read more »

Great White Fire Ranks as Rock's Worst Tragedy

From rampaging bikers at the Rolling Stones’ infamous Altamont show in 1969 to deadly stampedes by fans of the Who and Pearl Jam, the most notorious rock concert tragedies have generally been linked to the biggest names in the business. That is, until Great White took the stage of a tiny Rhode Island nightclub Thursday night. The heavy metal “hair” band, which reached the brief apex of its career in the 1980s, will now be forever remembered for a devastating fire that stands in a class by itself as the deadliest episode in the annals of rock ‘n’ roll mayhem.… Read more »

Durst: Britney's Life 'Out of Control'

Limp Bizkit lead singer Fred Durst said that despite his recent outpourings of affection for Britney Spears, her life is too “out of control” for him to date her. Durst posted several romantic messages on his band’s Web site last month about the pop singer, such as, “I have never felt this way.” The 32-year-old said that when he met Spears, he thought, “Wow, this is just a very sweet Southern girl, just simple, you know, Southern girl,” he told “Access Hollywood” for an interview airing Monday. “But actually, she has a life like Michael Jackson. It’s, like, out of… Read more »

All three bands will play headline-length sets. Tickets for most of the shows will be going on sale Feb. 22. When Britney Spears drops her new album this fall, don’t be surprised to find a little reminder of her relationship with Fred Durst. The Limp Bizkit frontman is among the producers working on Spears’ as-yet-untitled new album, due in October, according to a Jive Records spokesperson. Durst has produced one unnamed track thus far, but it – as well as everything else that has been done for the follow-up to 2001’s Britney – is not guaranteed to wind up on Spears’ fourth LP.
