Gwen Stefani Set For First Solo Album

In No Doubt’s 1995 hit single “Just A Girl,” lead singer Gwen Stefani sarcastically sang “the moment that I step outside, so many reasons for me to run and hide.” Eight years later, the blonde singer has decided to step out from hiding with the impending release of her first solo album. And if those working with her on the project are any indication, expect the forthcoming set to have a very hip-hop feel. Interscope Records has brought in Missy Elliott and Outkast to help guide Stefani’s debut effort. Elliott warned MTV, “It’s not just another record. It’s going to… Read more »

Dashboard Confessional Singer Heals Scars, Stops Singing The Blues On New LP

Anyone who pegs Dashboard Confessional frontman Chris Carrabba as a sad pompadoured sack based on heartbreakers like “Again I Go Unnoticed” and “Screaming Infidelities” should get ready to change their perception of him. His new album, A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar, portrays the man tagged by many as a poster boy for emo in a mood that contradicts his conventionally accepted disposition. “I’m actually excited about the fact that it’s a happier record,” Carrabba said. “If it dispels those conceptions that I’m like, ultra mopey, that would be great because anybody who’s met me can tell you… Read more »

Mariah vs. Eminem

Mariah Carey’s unlikely to give Eminem a charm bracelet, much less extend an olive branch. The pissed-off pop songstress, who’s relaxing in the Caribbean before setting sail on a six-month world tour in support of her new album, Charmbracelet, had some pointed words for the rap superstar after hearing reports that Em threatened to include samples of several rambling voicemail messages she left him in an upcoming tune. “I don’t know what the hell he’s doing,” Carey grouses in the New York Daily News on Thursday. “It’s a little excessive. Doesn’t it seem a little bit girly? Like we’re in… Read more »

Wes Borland At Top Of His Game With Eat The Day

When someone who’s worked on some of the greatest guitar albums of all time, Kiss’ Destroyer and Alice Cooper’s School’s Out among them, calls you a “virtuoso playing at the top of his game,” you can be pretty sure it’s sincere. And that’s exactly what legendary producer Bob Ezrin said of Wes Borland when he first heard the ex-Limp Bizkit guitarist’s new band, Eat the Day. “They played me some stuff which struck me as being not only innovative, but also reminiscent of some of the more adventurous guitar work that had been done in the past by people like… Read more »

Eminem Disses Weird Al

The only person who gets to poke fun at Eminem is…himself? That’s the word from Weird Al Yankovic who, despite gaining permission from the rap superstar to parody his hit “Lose Yourself” in a tune called “Couch Potato,” couldn’t convince his Em-inence to let Yankovic do the same in a music video. One would think the hip-hopster would stand up and oblige a comedian who’s made a career out of satirizing the likes of Michael Jackson (“Eat It,” “I’m Fat,”), Madonna (“Like a Surgeon”), Nirvana (“Smells Like Nirvana”) and Coolio (“Amish Paradise”), but the answer was an unequivocal no. While… Read more »

Eminem Will Not Perform At The Oscars

Rapper-actor Eminem will not perform his Oscar-nominated hit, “Lose Yourself,” at the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony. Dennis Dennehy of Interscope Records told USA Today, “He’ll still be on vacation during the Academy Awards.” Oscar-show producer Gil Cates, who usually attempts to persuade all the artists nominated for best original song to perform, explained how he might work out the wrinkle. “There’s no rule that the nominees have to sing or that you even have to include all of the numbers in the show,” Cates says. “I could do a medley or no songs at all….It’s a very fluid show with… Read more »

Durst Furthers Britney-Romance Rumors With Online Post

Fred Durst is keeping tight-lipped about his professional dealings with Britney Spears, but this weekend he spoke out about his personal relationship with her. “Anybody out there who has a serious problem with my feelings for Britney should just chill and worry about your own feelings for a minute,” Durst wrote in post on Limp Bizkit’s Web site Sunday. “[She] just happens to be a person that I [wouldn’t] have thought could make me feel this way,” he wrote. “And believe that I have never felt this way, so there.” It seems the man who once bluntly explained he “did… Read more »

U2's Edge Says New Album Could Arrive By Next Summer

A U2 album of all-new material could arrive by next summer, according to the band’s guitarist, the Edge. Speaking with Ireland’s Hot Press magazine, the guitar player, whose real name is Dave Evans, said the group plans to have a new album completed and in stores by mid-2003. He told the Dublin-based magazine that the band is on a roll in the studio, and likened the new recordings’ sound to U2’s early days, with “simple, stripped-down arrangements.” The band’s sessions at Hanover Quay studios have already resulted in two new songs, “Electrical Storm” and “The Hands That Built America,” both… Read more »
