MxPx: Punk Band, Bar Band, Frat Rock Band???


In true DYI form, MxPx have been busy as heck since the release of THE EVER PASSING MOMENT three years ago. The band made rounds on the 2002 Warped Tour, filmed a Diet Pepsi commercial that aired during Super Bowl XXXVII and opened for Good Charlotte and New Found Glory this past spring. After recording over 40 songs, MxPx will release BEFORE EVERYTHING AND AFTER on September 16. MxPx Get Promotional Help From George W. Bush, Emily Bronte


Lots of artists hype their songs in movie soundtracks and TV ads. Positive punkers MxPx do that too, but they’re also relying on the Bush administration to help get the word out. “Well Adjusted,” one of the songs from their new album, Before Everything and After (September 16), is being used in a TV public service announcement by the President’s Council on Drug Abuse and the Partnership for a Drug-Free America. It may have been the year of 50 Cent, but he’ll play second fiddle to Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake and country legend Johnny Cash heading into the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. Rancid, Blink-182, Green Day Members Step To The Mic For Charles Manson Movie


Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong is turning to Charles Manson for salvation, and he’s bringing Kelly Osbourne and members of Blink-182, Green Day and AFI along for the ride. When he finishes this year’s Vans Warped Tour, Armstrong will put the finishing touches on the upcoming stop-motion animated film “Live Freaky! Die Freaky!” in which Manson surfaces in a post-apocalyptic wasteland to guide a group of survivors who are desperately searching for a spiritual leader. Blink-182, Outkast, Bone Crusher, Joe Budden Score Tracks On 'Madden 2004'


Quarterback sacks and goal-line stances aren’t the only kinds of hits you’ll find on “Madden 2004.” Blink-182, Outkast and Nappy Roots will contribute new songs to the football video game’s soundtrack, while Joe Budden, AFI and the Roots offer previously released tunes, according to an Electronic Arts spokesperson. Avril Lavigne, New Found Glory On 'American Wedding' Soundtrack


Avril Lavigne probably never went to band camp, but that didn’t disqualify her from the soundtrack for “American Wedding,” the third slice of celluloid from the “American Pie” series. The previously unreleased Avril song “I Don’t Give” will be featured on the disc, which comes out July 22. The track was recorded during the session for Let Go, and is about an independent girl who refuses to be played. “You know I’m not gonna cry/ About some stupid guy/ A guy who thinks he’s all that,” she sings in the chorus. Pop punks drop a rock on Orange County girls – Review


At the very least, give credit to New Found Glory and Good Charlotte for getting teenage girls enthusiastic about rock that has real guitars and real drums. More than that, those two pop-punk bands deserve to be saluted for the energy and enthusiasm they displayed at their show Wednesday night at the University of California, Irvine’s Bren Events Center.
