ANTI-FLAG has contributed “Bring Out Your Dead” for the “Liberation: Songs To Benefit PETA” compilation CD that NOFX’s Fat Mike has put together for PETA. Good Charlotte, The Used, Goldfinger, Propagandhi, Midtown, District 7, Frenzal Rhomb, Conor Oberst’s band Desaparecidos, The Faint, Bigwig, The Eyeliners, Story of the Year, NOFX, Anti-Flag, Hot Water Music, and Good Riddance all came to play. Said Fat Mike, “The songs from Good Charlotte and The Used are very rare recordings that, of course, John Feldmann got a hold of for us. Trust us, you won’t find these songs anywhere else!” The CD includes an… Read more »

Treble Charger Wanna Get Paid

The following message appears on the Treble Charger website: “Thanks to all you fans who support artists by buying music!” Their latest album, Detox, recently achieved Gold status in Canada – no small feat given the file-sharing climate of today’s music industry. “I think there’s a lot of people who justify it by saying that guys in bands are all rich and they don’t really care if people download their music,” hypothesizes Treble Charger drummer Trevor MacGregor. “Really, that’s not the case.” “Trevor and I both live in rat-bag apartments in Toronto,” agrees guitarist Bill Priddle. “I think there’s a… Read more »

Ozzy Croons And Moons, Manson Rocks With Private Parts, Killswitch Kill At Ozzfest Stop – Review

Ozzy crooned, mooned and squirted his water guns, Disturbed bellowed, and Marilyn Manson vamped it up, but Ozzfest has always been just as much about the lesser-known acts, and Sunday’s show was no exception. Though bands like Kilgore, Pushmonkey and the perhaps aptly named No One have proven that Ozzfest exposure alone won’t make you famous, second-stage alumni System of a Down and Slipknot can attest that it certainly doesn’t hurt. Killswitch Engage’s potential spot in the Slipknot category seemed all but assured even before they appeared at Dallas’ Smirnoff Music Centre. Even though it was only the second show… Read more »

Boston Sue Artemis

With his lawsuits threatening to outnumber his album releases, Boston leader Tom Scholz has revved up the litigation machine again and is suing his label, Artemis Records, for more than $4 million. Scholz filed suit in New York on Tuesday, claiming that the band’s first album in eight years, 2002’s Corporate America, failed to take off because the label didn’t promote it properly, despite promises that Boston’s fifth album would be a priority. The suit claims Scholz signed with Danny Goldberg’s Artemis because of Goldberg’s “repeated promises that his label would give the highest priority to promoting [Corporate America]; that… Read more »

Eminem Dangles His 'Baby' Jacko-Style, Gives Nauseated Fan His 'M'

Eminem has one-upped Michael Jackson. Spoofing the pop star’s infamous baby-dangling incident that took place last November in Germany, Slim Shady actually tossed his “baby” up in the air on Tuesday in Glasgow, Scotland. No, it wasn’t his daughter, Hailie – this baby was a life-size blonde-haired baby doll, seemingly masked, which a surgical-mask-wearing Em held above the crowd, tossed up, and caught by its head. Of course, he was on a first-floor balcony at the Arthouse Hotel, so the doll was in no danger. Just in case that stunt seemed a little nasty, Eminem practiced a little preemptive redemption… Read more »

Top Artists Balking At A La Carte Downloads

Despite the major labels’ success in clearing hundreds of thousands of tracks for purchase online through services like Apple’s iTunes Music Store, some top artists continue to resist authorizing the dismantling of their albums for Internet consumption as a la carte singles. Some acts are requiring that their music be sold exclusively in album bundles. For example, Linkin Park recently pulled its music as a singles offering from digital services. Sources say the band has expressed concerns about undercutting album sales. Other acts with similar stipulations about their work include Radiohead, Madonna, Jewel and Green Day, sources say. Top acts… Read more »

Ozzy Wishes Prince William Happy Birthday

Prince William, who turns 21 on Saturday, got birthday greetings from shock rocker Ozzy Osbourne. Osbourne, whose chaotic family life is the subject of an MTV reality series, invited the prince to come stay at his Beverly Hills mansion. “I’ve been told that you want to come and live in America. You’re more than welcome to come and live in my house,” Osbourne told a TV special celebrating William’s birthday. Excerpts from Friday’s show were released in advance by broadcaster ITV. “My daughter would be thrilled. My wife would. I would. And the dogs would!” the 54-year-old rocker said. A… Read more »

Pink Teams With Transplants, Good Charlotte Unplug For Weenie Roast – Review

Liam Lynch was onstage about two minutes total, yet it was his song that best summed up Saturday’s 11-hour KROQ Weenie Roast. It was truly the “United States of Whatever.” As in, whatever goes. Good Charlotte unplugged, Pink got the party started with the Transplants, and Jane’s Addiction played unannounced, proving nothing was off-limits at the trend-setting radio station’s 11th annual summer festival. The lineup itself was a little bit of whatever, and certainly more diverse than last year’s “diet Ozzfest,” as Jack Osbourne called it. All three stages showcased a variety of bands, although it was surprisingly the main… Read more »

Mars Volta Keyboardist Found Dead

The Mars Volta keyboardist Jeremy Michael Ward, also a member of Defacto, has died from an apparent drug overdose, according to Defacto’s record company Gold Standard Labs (GSL). The 27-year-old Ward had served as “sound manipulator” for the Mars Volta – also comprised of former At The Drive-In members Cedric Bixler and Omar Rodriguez – on its recordings and live shows. “The members, family, and friends of the Mars Volta were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of band member Jeremy Ward,” reads a statement from the band on GSL’s official Web site (http://www.goldstandardlabs.com). “Ward was found dead… Read more »
