Just a month before he releases the first DVD from his New Power Generation Music Club, the club has sent its paid members a list of album rarities Prince would like returned in his continuing struggle to guard against bootlegging and to control his own sonic real estate. In an e-mail sent Wednesday to the NPGMC, fans were asked to “Help the cause!” and look for “anything with a WB logo that was unofficially released during Prince’s tenure at that label.” Among the suggested discs to send in, according to a list provided by the… Read more »

Wakefield Are Dissed By Avril, Fake Feuding With Good Charlotte

On the opening track their debut album Wakefield cheekily declare “We’re in it for the money, all the groupie honeys/We wanted to be famous… we sold out.” Which leads one to ponder: are the guys admitting that they’ve sold their souls for rock ‘n roll, or is there more to the story? “We get so tired of hearing that we’ve sold out,” complains guitarist JD Tennyson. Lounging in the Gold Club at Toronto’s Kool Haus prior to a recent show, Tennyson takes exception to the term “sell-out.” “All of our favourite bands are being called sellouts,” he says. “Kids these… Read more »

Ruben Studdard Confronted By Rabid Claymates At Tour Stop – Review

“American Idol” Ruben Studdard is lucky he has a healthy ego. Not only is “Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken beating the champ on the Billboard singles charts, but on the fifth stop of the “Idol” summer tour, the spiky-haired crooner proved that he’s winning the battle for the hearts and minds of “Idol” fans across the country. Even before the nine “Idol” finalists took the stage at U.S. Bank Arena Sunday night to perform a nearly two-and-a-half-hour medley of covers, the mere sight of Clay’s face on the two Jumbotron screens flanking the massive neon ballroom set was enough to elicit… Read more »

Fuse Takes Aim at MTV

We feel like MTV felt twenty years ago,” says Marc Juris, the president of Fuse, a small but flourishing cable channel that’s staking its future on a simple idea: Music television should play music videos. So far, the results are encouraging: Fuse more than doubled its reach to 31 million households in the last twelve months, though that’s a long way from the 86 million homes MTV reaches or the 49 million households of MTV’s music-video spin-off MTV2. Fuse, which debuted in 1994 as a tiny U.S. offshoot of the Canadian music station MuchMusic, hired TV vet Juris away from… Read more »
