Three-Day Celebration Planned For Mellencamp's 50th Birthday


John Mellencamp will celebrate his 50th birthday this weekend with a three-day party in the southern part of Indiana. MellenBash begins Friday (October 5) in Bloomington and wraps up on his birthday, Sunday (October 7), with a tribute concert in his hometown of Seymour that will feature more than 20 local groups, including some featuring members of Mellencamp’s bands past and present, although Mellencamp himself is not scheduled to attend. Carlos Santana Records With Michael Jackson, Unveils Fashion Line


In the midst of a yearlong hiatus from the road, veteran guitarist and bandleader Carlos Santana has recorded a new song with reclusive pop star Michael Jackson. “I was very honored that he called on me to work with him, and I love the song,” Santana said. “He gave me a call last week, and he was really happy with it.” A Jackson spokesperson confirmed that the track is intended for the long-awaited follow-up to 1991’s Dangerous, his last studio LP of all-new material. Oh, what a week it was for music news. My head hurts just thinking about it. No, wait – that’s just my hangover. Twelve-time Brit Award winner and international chart topper Robbie Williams disclosed plans to release a version of “We Are the Champions,” recorded with the remaining members of Queen. Poor Freddie Mercury is pirouetting in his grave. Williams also told a British chat show he’s been wrestling with alcoholism off-and-on for the past four years.
