When he belted out “Somewhere I Belong,” we’re guessing Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington didn’t mean that somewhere to be a hospital bed. But the alternametal band’s frontman has been confined to a Los Angeles-area hospital since Friday battling a mystery malady, the group’s label has announced. The Family Way, Paul McCartney’s first try at film music, has been rereleased by the Montreal-based XXI-21 Records label. McCartney scored the British film in late 1966, while the Beatles were on break between the Revolver and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band albums. The original version of the album was only 24 minutes long, with McCartney’s music performed mostly by the Claudel String Quartet. The new edition of The Family Way features the McCartney soundtrack along with two additional treatments of the music performed by the George Martin Orchestra and Carl Aubut. The members of Metallica are the heroes of the day at San Quentin State Prison, one of the most infamous prisons in the United States. The hard rock quartet, preparing to release its new album “St. Anger” on June 10, is shooting a video for the title track at the prison on Wednesday, and will perform an hourlong concert the following day, the group said on its Web site (http://www.metclub.com). Seven weeks after heart bypass surgery, doctors cleared Lynyrd Skynyrd founding lead guitarist Gary Rossington to return to touring with the southern rock band starting in June. Rossington, 51, underwent the quintuple bypass surgery Feb. 25 at an Atlanta-area hospital. Band spokesman Lathum Nelson said Thursday in Los Angeles that the cardiologist gave Rossington the green light to return to stage June 13 in Karlsruhe, Germany. “Since his surgery, Gary has done well. Bertelsmann said Monday it is seeking bids by the end of the week for its academic and professional publishing business, which the German media company intends to sell for about 1 billion euros ($1.06 billion) to cut debt. Bertelsmann expects “at least half a dozen” bids for its BertelsmannSpringer unit, spokesman Oliver Herrgesell said. Berlin-based BertelsmannSpringer has 5,200 employees in 16 countries and publishes books, periodicals, databases as well as CD-ROMs in scientific and medical fields.
