Oops! girl Britney Spears was forced to cut short an encore after her concert last Thursday in Moline, Illinois, and cancel a Friday performance in Chicago after she hurt herself during a complicated dance routine. Spears was performing a new song, “Boom Boom,” when the mishap occurred, according to reports. Perhaps she hadn’t worked out all the kinks in the routine-in any case, Spears was forced to abandon the stage. As Britney Spears readies for her tour, she’s making sure there’s plenty of her to go around while fans wait for her to come around. The singer’s about to release a DVD that’ll include pre-tour concert footage as well as bonus tracks. Two new songs are found on the CD portion of Spears’ “In the Zone” DVD, due March 23. Fans at a Puddle of Mudd show in Toledo, Ohio, got a lot less than they bargained for Sunday night when frontman Wes Scantlin cut the band’s set short, announced he was too wasted to play and eventually found himself in police custody facing a disorderly conduct charge. Those in attendance said that a scant four songs into the band’s performance at Headliners club Scantlin’s bandmates walked off the stage, leaving a stumbling, hostile Scantlin alone. Producer Ismail Merchant says pop diva Tina Turner’s two-week tour of India has prepared her for her role as a singing, dancing Indian goddess in a new Merchant-Ivory film. “‘The Goddess’ will be funny, intelligent and a musical,” Merchant said. “It’s a film about Shakti. Hot on the heels of his song of the year Grammy win earlier this month, singer/songwriter Richard Marx has signed with EMI/Manhattan Records. Marx picked up the Grammy for “Dance With My Father,” which he co-wrote with the tune’s singer, Luther Vandross. Marx, famed for late ’80s hits such as “Hold on to the Nights” and “Right Here Waiting,” is putting the finishing touches on an album slated for a summer release.
