Finger Eleven Give Burlington An Xmas Gift

Finger Eleven don’t remember where they come from. The band have enjoyed their most successful year ever – making huge headway into the U.S. modern rock market – but rather than focusing on fancy U.S. radio promo shows, the band will spend some time this holiday season giving back to their hometown of Burlington, Ontario. On December 16, F11 will play a special charity show at Big Buck’s Burlington. The show will be open to any Burlingtonian with $5 in their pocket and a non-perishable food item or unwrapped toy. Finger Eleven will be joined on the bill by three… Read more »

Eminem Rubs Out Shania On Way To The Top

It’s finally happened. After putting up with Celine Dion, Rod Stewart and Shania Twain, someone representing the kids has made it to the top. It only took Eminem five days to sell over 79,000 CDs, last week, so imagine what a full week of sales could do? After a full seven days, Em took over the top spot selling 82,300 CDs, blowing away Twain, who was #1 last week. The controversial rapper has gone more than platinum in both Canada and the U.S..in just under two weeks, which isn’t much of a surprise as he is one of the most… Read more »

Velvet Revolver's Forgettable Rock Experience – Review

After witnessing this incredibly uneventful performance by “super group” Velvet Revolver, it’s safe to surmise that they’re getting by on history alone. Like many bands before them, they feed off of what their individual names used to mean and are entirely undeserving of the glory bestowed upon them. Now, before you start firing off hate emails, read on. Given the wealth of talent comprising Velvet Revolver and the obvious success of debut album Contraband, one cannot deny that this quintet is capable of writing a few solid tunes. The problem is that, aside from purely ego centric reasons, they’re just… Read more »

Bright Eyes Go A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Techno

Nelly had a fair amount of success earlier this fall when he suckered his fans into buying not one, but two new albums on the same day: the party-pumping Sweat and the slow-jammin’ Suit. You’ve got to have some moxy to pull off the two separate albums released on the same day trick (Guns N’ Roses and Tom Waits – who’ve both pulled it off – aren’t exactly your typical artists). If anything, Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst has moxy. The indie rock heartthrob will not only release two albums on the same day (January 25), but he’s planning to launch… Read more »

Warped founder Kevin Lyman is the mastermind behind the tour, and he’s confirmed both the lineup and the dates for the inaugural jaunt. As previously reported, the Used are locked in to headline, but the rest of the bill has been confirmed, and it’s a harder-edged lineup than Warped fans might be… Read more »

It’s not homicide authorities are investigating over at the rap label formerly known as Murder Inc. Avril, Chantal And Raine Shine At SOCAN Awards

It may not have the glitz and glamour of a televised performance-oriented awards show, but the annual SOCAN Awards honour something more important than pop-tart prancing: songwriting. Last night, the Society Of Composers, Authors And Music Publishers Of Canada handed out awards to the top songwriters in the country. Held at Toronto’s Carlu, the gala award dinner was hosted by Lawrence Gowan. Over the course of the evening, the body that pays songwriters their royalties (and keeps food on many of their tables) gave props to the most played songs of the year, as well as some golden oldies that… Read more »
