The British rocker already has two sold-out shows booked at the 6,000-capacity venue for Feb. 12 and 13. He had been booked to play a now canceled Feb. 9 show in severely hit Sri Lanka. Year End Readers' Poll: Avril And Simple Plan's Pierre Are S-E-X-Y

As promised yesterday, we’re back to update you on the remaining categories in Chart’s Year End Readers’ Poll. Yesterday we reported that Simple Plan were leading the votes in the music-based categories, but who are our readers rooting for in the Sexiest Canadian Musician categories? At press time, about 600 of you had filled out the poll and the majority of you fancy Pierre Bouvier, lead singer of Simple Plan. In a distant second place in our Throw Your Underwear (Male) category is The Tea Party’s Jeff Martin, followed by the more, er, mature William Shatner, who is quite surprisingly… Read more »

Butch Walker Prefers Avril's Fans Over Booing Punks

Having his solo debut tank might have been the best thing for Butch Walker’s career. Not too many people bought 2002’s Left of Self-Centered – the album sold barely 20,000 copies, according to SoundScan – but many of those who did adored the smart riff-rock from the guy who used to front the late-’90s power trio Marvelous 3. Not only did Walker sing and play all the instruments except drums, he also produced, mixed and engineered the LP. Such versatile qualities appealed to a lot of people, not least of whom was Avril Lavigne. “Obviously, it was a very unpopular… Read more »

Lavigne Says Fake Pop Starlets Are 'Pathetic'

With Ashlee Simpson in the news this week following a disastrous lip-synching appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” Canadian pop singer Avril Lavigne says it’s “pathetic” that some young artists don’t sing on their own record or on stage. While she can relate to the pressures of learning how to play live and work an audience for the first time, Lavigne says she takes exception to the practice of lip-synching. “You know what? There are a lot of people out there today, who have become stars or famous musicians – I wouldn’t really define them as a star – with a… Read more »

Sum 41 Management Deny Deryck/Avril Wedding Rumours

Sum 41’s management company Bunk Rock (headed by Greig Nori) have released a statement refuting reports of the pop-punk couple’s impending nuptials. “Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 is not engaged,” the statement reads. “Deryck and his friends are constantly followed by paparazzi. The recent ‘breaking news’ that has been misconstrued around the world exemplifies the media’s constant invasion of people’s personal lives and reporting of unsubstantiated rumors and/or appearances. “If there was a picture that captured Deryck kneeling, it was more likely him bending over to pick up the crack pipe that fell out of the paparazzi’s pocket than him… Read more »

Avril's Stalker Boi Busted Again

She may put on a tough front, but surly teen pop star Avril Lavigne has once again enlisted the help of the courts to stop a persistent stalker boi from harassing her and her family. Prosecutors in Everett, Washington, have charged 30-year-old James B. Speedy with felony stalking for his overzealous and unwanted attention to the Lavigne brood over the past year. Speedy has allegedly been firing off letters to the singer and her family since 2003, and he recently violated the terms of a court order by trying to get in touch with her yet again. “He sent his… Read more »

Avril Gives "TRL" the Finger

MTV pulled the plug on Avril Lavigne’s appearance on Total Request Live yesterday after the teenage pop star stuck up her middle finger during the show’s telecast. According to a report in New York’s Daily News, TRL host Damien Fahey asked Lavigne for her thoughts about labels that had been placed on her by the media, to which the Canadian singer responded by flipping the bird in the direction of the camera. Lavigne was scheduled to perform another song during the show, but MTV cut her appearance short. The music television network may still be smarting over its production during… Read more »

Alleged Avril Stalker Picked Up By Cops

Police have arrested a man in Seattle for allegedly stalking Avril Lavigne. According to the Associated Press, 30-year-old James Speedy was taken into custody in the Seattle suburb of Lynnwood and was taken to Lynnwood County jail after police searched his home last Wednesday (April 7). Police in Lynnwood have been investigating the case since Canadian police informed them that harassing letters and emails were being sent to Lavigne last year. The exact content of those letters and emails hasn’t been revealed, but police have told the press that they were creepy enough to freak Lavigne out. Coincidentally, the same… Read more »

Avril Confirms That Jesse's Out And Craig Is In

When news broke earlier this week that Avril Lavigne’s rhythm guitarist Jesse Colburn had been ousted from the band, Lavigne herself was caught a little off guard that the news caused such a commotion. Seeing as Colburn is heavily rumoured to be Avril’s ex-boyfriend, the switch-up in Lavigne’s band has certainly got the gossip mill churning. Lavigne isn’t about to throw more fuel on that fire by elaborating on Colburn’s reasons for leaving (the official party line is that he left to pursue other projects), but she did confirm that he is no longer in the band. “No,” Lavigne responded… Read more »
