Janet Reminisces Over 'All For You,' Slots 'Lover' For Next Single

While Janet Jackson’s new album, All for You, is expected to top next week’s Billboard 200, the title track is still holding strong as the #1 song in the country. Like most of Janet’s album, the song is produced by the singer/songwriter with the Flyte Tyme team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and it includes an inventive sample – from Change’s 1980 disco cut “The Glow of Love,” which featured Luther Vandross on lead vocals. “It was Jimmy’s idea,” Janet told MTV Europe of the sample. “I hadn’t heard the song before. Bertelsmann AG chairman and CEO Thomas Middelhoff has asked the record companies to “keep Napster alive” until an effective transition into a legitimate model occurs July 1. However, if Napster fails to have a legitimate solution by July 1, Middelhoff said, the file-swapping service should be shut down. Bertelsmann and Napster entered into a strategic alliance in October. Middelhoff’s speech during a town hall meeting at the Beverly Hilton was… Read more »

Metallica Members Rip Each Other In Interview

The lead vocalist of hard rock band Metallica cannot sing well and may be homophobic, the drummer isn’t very good either, and everyone was mean to the bass player. That’s not the critics talking, but the four members of the San Francisco-based group taking potshots at each other during separate interviews woven together in the upcoming issue of Playboy magazine. The sessions were conducted two months before bass player Jason Newsted announced in January he was quitting the mega-selling group after 14 years, citing “private and personal reasons” and “physical damage” resulting from his playing. Playboy said Newsted’s departure followed… Read more »

Prosecutors Still Want Jail Time For Eminem

Prosecutors in Macomb County have offered to drop one of two felony charges against Eminem, but they still want jail time for the Grammy-nominated rapper. One of Eminem’s lawyers said Tuesday (February 13) that chances are “at least 50-50” that the controversial hip-hop artist may accept the proposed plea bargain when both sides appear in court Wednesday afternoon. But accepting the plea agreement won’t automatically mean Eminem, 28, will land behind bars soon – or at all. Any sentence would be up to Macomb County Circuit Court Visiting Judge Antonio Viviano. Eminem, known to the legal system by his born… Read more »
