A prosecutor said that he intends to seek a jail sentence against a Venezuelan singer-actor charged with trespassing at the island home of Gloria and Emilio Estefan. The Estefans have obtained a civil restraining order to keep Juan Carlos Diaz away from them, and a similar order was widened Friday as part of his bail on the criminal trespass charge. Diaz, 33, must stay away from the famous music couple, their homes on exclusive Star Island and three of the Estefans’ best-known businesses: their studio, office and a restaurant. The Estefans claim Diaz has harassed them at their home and… Read more »

Vedder Rambles, Green Day Scramble As Ramones Enter Hall

A mohawked Eddie Vedder put the regal Waldorf-Astoria hotel in a punk rock state of mind Monday night when he inducted the Ramones into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Nearing the end of his 17-minute speech, Vedder said, “After this, I’m sure the evening will move quickly, but it’s the Ramones and it’s punk rock and I’m just about finished and I hope you’re OK with that.” The crowd’s response included some jeers and boos. “Apparently you’re not. F– you,” he replied. But overall, the night was filled with special moments – including a Talking Heads induction and… Read more »

The Ramones Ushered Into Rock Hall

They represented the anti-establishment, so it was a bit odd to see the Ramones so happy to become part of the music establishment as members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But for the remaining members of the punk rock originators – whose lead singer, Joey Ramone, died last year – Monday night’s induction at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel represented long-overdue respect for the band that helped revolutionize rock with their rapid-fire, guitar-heavy songs. “I’d like to congratulate myself, and thank myself, and give myself a big pat on the back,” joked Dee Dee Ramone. “Thank you Dee Dee,… Read more »

On Verge Of Blowing Up, 50 Cent Finds Value In His Street Cred

There is no such thing as gut-check time for Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. He has to be a trooper at all times. Along with the normal artist concerns like squabbles with his label (his 1999 debut, Power of the Dollar, was heavily bootlegged and Trackmasters/Columbia never released it), producers and other rappers (he and Ja Rule have fought on and off wax), 50’s been stabbed, shot in the mouth and had to move away from his hometown to ensure his safety. But the Queens, New York, native says things could not be better. “I’m not bitter at all,” the 25-year-old… Read more »

Napster settlement taking a long time to download

A federal judge’s deadline has passed, but the recording industry still has not settled its 3-year-old copyright infringement case against Napster, the online music-sharing company said Tuesday. Last month, U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel agreed to a 30-day delay in the lawsuit brought by major record labels. They accuse Napster of violating copyright laws by allowing millions of Internet users to share unauthorized digital music over the Web. Patel’s deadline expired Tuesday, and no deal was reached. The recording industry is seeking a ruling that finds Napster liable for copyright infringement, and it wants to seek damages. A pending… Read more »

Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey To Go All The Way

On-again, off-again pop power couple Jessica Simpson and 98 Degrees’ Nick Lachey are not only back together… they’re engaged. Though they had a very public breakup last April, the twosome are “very happy” now that they plan to tie the knot, according to a spokesperson for Simpson’s record label. The couple, who had been dating since Simpson opened for 98 Degrees’ tour in the summer of 1999, were similar to pop’s other reigning couple, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake – in both cases, the female half made public proclamations that she would remain a virgin until she was married. Simpson… Read more »

3LW Dis Lil' Bow Wow, Leave Club With A Taller Baller

3LW’s Kiely Williams has a big smile on her face as she sits in Manhattan’s Battery Studios listening to “I Think I Wanna Leave With You,” off the trio’s upcoming second LP, A Girl Can Mack. “I wanna leave with you/ Do you wanna leave with me?” she asks with her groupmates Adrienne Bailon and Naturi Naughton on the chorus. But the girls’ frankness as they sing about scooping up guys in the club isn’t why Kiely has a look of mischief on her grill. It’s her rhyme “I hang with big dogs/ So what’s a Lil’ Bow Wow?” “I’m… Read more »
