All-American Rejects Make The Honeymoon Last On 'Time Stands Still'

From Jim Croce’s “Time in a Bottle” in the 1970s to Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time” in the ’80s, and R. Kelly’s “If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time” a decade later, songs about stopping time are as numerous as sands in an hourglass. The All-American Rejects extend the time-honored tradition with their third single, “Time Stands Still.” The song, which follows “Swing Swing” and “The Last Song,” is similar to the themes that flow through the Oklahoma band’s self-titled debut album in that they’re all about singer, bassist and lyricist Tyson Ritter’s girl problems. But… Read more »

Weezer Delays Album Reissue And DVD

Weezer has delayed the special edition reissue of its self-titled 1994 debut album, according to the band’s official web site. A DVD of the band’s history has also been pushed back. Both items were originally due out by the end of this year, but will now probably surface in 2004, due to what a posting on the site called “overall schedule planning at the record label.” The new edition of Weezer is expected to emerge as a double-disc set, featuring an elaborate booklet, lyrics, liner notes, B-sides, rarities, and some previously unheard material. The DVD, titled Video Capture Device, will… Read more »

Puddle Of Mudd Benefit From Parental Guidance

Many people are under the impression that Wes Scantlin, the singer and guitarist of Puddle of Mudd, is the sole creative force behind the group’s pain-stricken melodies. That’s not the case. His bandmates help shape the arrangements and throw in complementary parts, and there’s an even more powerful influence at work – one that’s ingrained in Scantlin’s blood. Unlike the many hard rock bands who sing about how badly their parents screwed up their lives, Scantlin has nothing but praise for his dad, who helps the singer decide which Puddle songs make the cut and which are scrapped. “I bounce… Read more »

Nickelback Strive To Please Fans, Selves With Graphic New Single

They teased the release of their third album, The Long Road, with the melodic mid-paced single “Someday,” which delivered everything their fans were used to. Now that the album is on the shelves, Nickelback hope to catch listeners with their pants down. “I like you with your pants around your feet, and I like the dirt that’s on your knees,” Chad Kroeger sings before stabbing guitars puncture the track. “Figured You Out,” one of the heavier songs on the album, will go to radio in early November. A video will be shot in the coming weeks, but a director has… Read more »

Good Charlotte, Pennywise and Sum 41 have always been known more for their practical jokes than their practical advice. That may soon change. The groups will each contribute a track to the compilation Rock Against Bush and take part in at least one show on a tour organized and funded by NOFX singer/bassist Fat Mike, who also owns the label Fat Wreck Chords. “About a year ago I… Read more »

Mooney Suzuki Save Jack Black's Butt, Plan To Work With The Matrix

A couple of years ago, a crazed Mooney Suzuki fan bum-rushed the band during a show and squirted mustard on singer/guitarist Sammy James Jr.’s fuzz box guitar pedal. The guy was apparently pissed that the garage rockers had “sold out” and signed with tiny indie label Estrus Records for their 2000 debut, People Get Ready, so he shouted, “Why don’t you have Estrus buy you a new one!” If that’s how he felt then, things could get much uglier next year when the band releases its as-yet-untitled third album, the first under its new deal with Columbia Records. Not to… Read more »
