Our Rioters were so busy getting down with Usher during the Super Bowl that they only managed to squeeze in one new segment all about The Vince Staples Show, before throwing it back to our other conversations about Black absurdism.

The Vince Staples Show
Sherin and Julian begin by Marvel-ing at the new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, before diving into The Vince Staples Show. The fresh take on the legend himself hits Netflix on Thursday, February 15th and our Rioters really, really want you to watch it. They share their hot takes, the contemporary comparisons they know audiences will make, and the Black absurdism that ties this whole GGR episode together.

I’m A Virgo + Secret Invasion
Julian gives a full preview for the 7-episode absurdist satire from Boots Riley that is streaming on Prime Video. Meanwhile, Sherin calls I’m A Virgo, “A modern take on folklore where things get very real in a fantastical Bay area…and it works so well.” They also praise Riley’s developing style. Then the dynamic duo turns to Secret Invasion for some Skrull actionSherin says, “Espionage drama has a great cast, and Samuel L. Jackson makes everything better, but the series hasn’t caught fire yet.” Julian, however, says it’s better than a lot of the Marvel shows.

The Blackening + Mariama Diallo from The Other Black Girl
In the final replay segment, Julian and Sherin talk about how good, hilarious, and witty The Blackening is. And they hope more people will see it. So, go now! Then it’s time to switch over to Hulu’s The Other Black Girl, which you need to binge-watch immediately right after this (and read Sherin’s review in the meantime). Sherin sits down with director Mariama Diallo to talk about bringing her own influences into the storytelling, working with the incredible team behind the series, and what scene she’s most excited for fans to see.
