This week on Geek Girl Riot Gugu Mbatha-Raw joins us to chat about Fast Color. Plus your heroic trio talk entertainment news, Hellboy, Special, and Little for an all-new She Said / He Said / She Said!

Entertainment News
Sherin, Philip, and Alex talk about the latest elephants in the newsroom: Game of Thrones season 8 AKA our fave soap opera with swords, Guava Island AKA Donald Glover and Rihanna’s new musical fable, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and BTS taking over the world and our Saturday Night [Live].

Now for the main event: Sherin chats with Gugu Mbatha-Raw all about her new film Fast Color, a sci-fi epic spanning three generations. They talk dystopian worlds, bringing herself and her influences to her character, and what property she’d love to turn into a musical.

Hellboy + Special + Little
Hellboy may have come from the fiery depths but it’s Philip who is about to give it hell in his roundup. He talks about Hellboy (2019)’s failures and compares it with the Guillermo del Toro adaptations. Then Sherin and Alex show some love for Special, Netflix’s amazing new comedy about a young gay man with Cerebral Palsy. (Seriously, once you’ve listened to our show, go watch Special and thank us later.)

To close out the show, Sherin digs into Little, the new film created by then-11-year-old Marsai Martin, which is her twist on Big. Sherin explains: “The true triumph of ‘Little’ is Marsai Martin, from creating and pitching this film, to executive producing it, to being the best thing about it. Martin is incredible.” Unfortunately, while the actors are all great and the concept is a good one, this movie fell short—hear why.
