This week Geek Girl Riot takes on Disney+, Martin Scorsese vs. Marvel, and how to deal with the culture of pointing fingers.

Disney+ is Coming For Your Time (and Wallets)
Disney+ has arrived for some of us (and the rest of us are waving our fists at the server overloads or, worse yet, the 2020 rollout dates in other countries). Philip managed to get access (at 1:45am the day of release—he thirsty) so he gives Sherin and Alex the breakdown of the new streaming service, as well as his take on the highly-anticipated The Mandalorian. They also talk about the start of the streaming wars and what it means for audiences.

Martin Scorsese vs. Marvel
Recently the seminal filmmaker Martin Scorsese made some passing comments about how he doesn’t think Marvel movies are “cinema”. Marvel fans, predictably, got mad and rained down Nick Fury on him. Being the smart man he is, Scorsese teamed up with The New York Times to address his previous statement in a well-composed letter (read it here). Our Rioters give their opinions on the points he made and share their own thoughts on the difficulties faced by independent filmmakers in the age of blockbuster franchise dominance.

Dealing with Disappointment and Blame
More than ever it seems that everyone is on edge and ready to point fingers…but what happens when people go too far and blame others for no reason? Sherin, Philip, and Alex talk about the times when the act of speaking up has made people angry and dismissive. They also share the ways they deal with being blamed, their methods of handling disappointment, and the catharsis they use to get through it.
