“In the sky-high city of living bone, to fall beneath the clouds is to be lost forever.”

If that sentence didn’t immediately hook you, did you actually read it? Go back and read it again. There you go. This is a small description of a huge world that is the Bone Universe, portrayed in Cloudbound, the upcoming, so-close-we-can-taste-it second book in the Updraft series by sci-fi/fantasy writer and blogger Fran Wilde. Like all great writers, Fran has many stories to tell, so Geek Girl Riot’s Sherin Nicole and Day Al-Mohamed sat down with her to talk about her upcoming projects, knock knock jokes, her love of paper and ink (and why it’s not a good idea to mail invisible ink), and giving back to the places that inspired her in her life.

Be sure to pick up Cloudbound, which is out on September 27th! Also check out all the books, inks, and everything in between Fran and the GGRioters (that sounds like the start of an epic new band) talked about below! Got something to say on this Whachudoin’? Got opinions on any of the recommendations below? Got some Updraft fan art to show Fran? If it’s not drawn in invisible ink, send us your messages, comments, and everything else on Twitter!
