Satellite Radio Extends Its Orbit

Radio is awesome, isn’t it? It’s free, it’s on whenever you want it, and you can choose from among eight or 10 stations. About the only people who could possibly complain about it, in fact, are people who have to listen to it. They’ll tell you that the music you hear on the radio is mostly the same cloying pop junk, played over and over. That 20 minutes of every hour is ads, played over and over. And that as you drive, the signal comes and goes with the territory. Two years ago, two companies – XM and Sirius –… Read more »

Jackson's Attorney Vows to Fight Charges

Child molestation charges against Michael Jackson are being driven by “money and revenge,” said defense attorney Mark Geragos, who vowed to derail the alleged victim’s credibility and fight what he called a prosecutor’s vendetta. For District Attorney Thomas Sneddon, whose similar 1993 case against the pop singer evaporated when the accuser reportedly accepted millions in settlement money, the charges filed Thursday represent a second chance to convict the fading pop star before the prosecutor begins his planned retirement. Unlike the 1993 case, Sneddon says, this time he has a cooperative witness who isn’t interested in a piece of Jackson’s fortune.… Read more »

MediaPal.com to Fill MP3.com Void

Last month CNET announced the purchase of the independent music distribution company MP3.com and the destruction of the site’s hosted music and materials of an estimated 250,000 artists and over one million songs from all over the world. The media reports that CNET’s takeover will turn MP3.com into a new site that focuses on the technologies and news of the digital music world while offering less suitable artist download and upload services. Many former MP3.com members are seeking exposure and distribution services on other less capable portals and services. MediaPal looks to fill the void left by the demise of… Read more »

Blink-182, Staind, Rancid React To News Of Saddam's Capture

The monitors backstage at KROQ-FM’s Almost Acoustic Christmas festival on Sunday were broadcasting the performances nearby, but discussion in the dressing rooms centered on what was unfolding on TV screens everywhere else. Saddam Hussein had just been captured. “Today’s a good day,” said Mark Hoppus, singer/bassist of Blink-182, who recently traveled to the Middle East to perform for U.S. troops. “We think it’s funny that a big turd like him got caught as a coward in a little hole with rats and lice,” added singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge, whose brother serves in the Navy. “He’s not ever coming back [to power].… Read more »

Courtney Love Drug Hearing Postponed

A judge postponed a hearing Thursday for singer-actress Courtney Love, who faces two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance. Superior Court Judge Lisa Hart Cole gave no explanation for delaying the hearing until Jan. 27. Defense attorney William Genego declined to say whether Love is undergoing drug rehabilitation. Love, who wore a pink jacket and pink sandals and carried pink roses, became anxious when the judge asked to review the probation report. “Probation…. What is that? What is that?” she said, before making growling noises and clawing motions with her hands. Love was charged in October with illegal… Read more »

P.O.D.'s 'Payable on Death' Goes Gold

Payable On Death, the newest album from Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum rock group P.O.D., has just been certified Gold by the RIAA after only four weeks on the album charts. Around 85 percent of Christian bookstores across the country will not allow kids to buy the new record in their stores because… Read more »

P.O.D. Cover Artist Speaks Out On Christian Ban

Daniel Martin Diaz, the artist who did the cover art for P.O.D.’s new Payable On Death album, says it’s “ironic” that the album has been banned by 85 percent of Christian bookstores in the U.S., reportedly because the cover is “occult.” Diaz told Australia’s Undercover.com, “It’s quite ironic that throughout my art career, I have been censored by a reputable art publication and denied inclusion into art exhibitions because my work is too religious. Now my work is being censored by religious outlets. Some folks need to enlighten themselves with art history.” Fans of the Christian-leaning P.O.D., many of them… Read more »

Police said without elaboration that they served “a search warrant as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.” Cable channel Court TV, which broke the story, quoted sources saying there had been a new allegation of sexual abuse brought by a 12-year-old boy… Read more »
