Dashboard Confessional, Custom, Abandoned Pools Don't Need No Stinkin' Band

“One-man band”: when you hear that phrase you probably picture a dude on a street corner with a pair of cymbals between his knees, a drum on his back, some kazoos in his mouth and a guitar case full of quarters. Think again. While naming a band after yourself is fine and good for guys like Dave Matthews and Jon Spencer, some band names are actually just cryptic pseudonyms for a single, mad studio genius. The past year has seen an explosion of do-it-yourself-ers, including ex-Eels bassist Tommy Walter with his band Abandoned Pools, stone alone emo-ter Chris Carrabba of… Read more »

Now, after Marsh’s abrupt departure for new pastures, remaining members Danny Foster, Myleene Klass, Suzanne Shaw and Noel Sullivan hope they can re-create the right mix. Supporters of the famed Stone Pony music club, which has fostered the careers of rock ‘n’ roll greats like Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith, vowed on Thursday to save the club from the wrecking ball. Developers are proposing to tear the Stone Pony down to make way for retail complexes and condominiums along the waterfront of Asbury Park, a century-old resort which has deteriorated in the last three decades under the weight of crime and unemployment. The developers will present their plan soon to the city council for approval. “Hell no, we won’t go,” said Domenic Santana, third owner of… Read more »

Former Rolling Stone Attacks Made-For-TV Popstars

Former Rolling Stone bass player Bill Wyman launched a savage attack on British pop phenomenons Hear’Say on Wednesday, saying the band created for a hit TV series were nothing more than “plumpish boys and girls who mimed.” “They are just pretty young people someone has discovered. They don’t write the songs they sing, most of the time they mime when performing live and most can’t play an instrument,” the veteran rocker told the Daily Mail. “I didn’t see any creativity. It’s all a production and of no interest to me,” he said. Wyman, 64, who recently kicked off a European… Read more »
